Donegal Group Inc. is an insurance holding company. Its subsidiaries collect premiums from businesses and households in exchange for covering insured losses. Commercial coverage, including business vehicles, property and workers’ compensation, supplies most revenue; homeowners and personal auto insurance provide the other main insurance business. Policies are sold exclusively through independent insurance agencies. The insurers seek to keep premiums above claims and operating costs, and invest premium funds mainly in fixed-income securities to earn investment income.
A significant share of revenue comes through subsidiary Atlantic States’ arrangement with Donegal Mutual, Donegal Group’s controlling shareholder. The two insurers combine substantially all their premiums, claims and claim-handling costs in a shared pool, then divide the business and its results under their agreement. Donegal Mutual administers the pool and also owns and manages the technology systems that Donegal Group’s insurers use for daily operations.
Profitability depends on pricing coverage to meet eventual claim costs, but state regulatory approvals can delay rate increases. The holding company itself has no significant operations and relies heavily on dividends from its insurance subsidiaries; state rules limit how much cash those subsidiaries can distribute.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Donegal Group Inc’s results depend especially on Donegal Mutual, which manages the underwriting pool supplying a significant share of revenue and runs the shared technology and services infrastructure.

Selective Insurance Group earningsSIGI
Selective Insurance Group's Standard Commercial Lines results show how it is competing with Donegal for businesses buying coverage through independent agents, and what claims are costing in that market.
Read Selective's Standard Commercial Lines premium growth alongside its combined ratio, which compares claims and underwriting expenses with premiums; below 100% means underwriting is profitable. Growing premiums with a stable or falling ratio would show that commercial business through independent agents can expand without sacrificing underwriting discipline, a supportive sign for Donegal's competition for business customers. Weak premiums or a rising ratio would point to tougher growth or claims pressure.

Donegal's report will show whether commercial-line renewals and retention support premiums while claims and expenses stay in check.
Read net premiums in commercial and personal lines alongside the combined ratio, which compares claims and underwriting expenses with premiums; below 100% means underwriting produced a profit overall. If commercial premiums hold or grow as personal lines shrink and the ratio stays below 100%, Donegal is reshaping its business while preserving underwriting profit. Weaker commercial premiums or a ratio above 100% would point to pressure on its premium base or underwriting margin.
GUIDEWIRE SOFTWARE, INC. earningsGWRE
GUIDEWIRE SOFTWARE, INC.'s report can show insurers' adoption of its cloud software, a supplier-level signal relevant to Donegal Mutual's planned systems migration.
Watch whether Guidewire's cloud business is advancing. Growing adoption would show insurers moving more systems work to its cloud platform, a supportive supplier-level signal for Donegal Mutual's planned migration; weak adoption would make that broader transition signal less reassuring. Neither outcome proves Donegal Mutual's project timing or cost: Donegal Group's 2025 expense ratio included about 1.2 percentage points of systems-modernization costs allocated by Donegal Mutual.
