Bank of Marin Bancorp conducts nearly all its business through Bank of Marin, serving Northern California businesses, nonprofits and individuals. The bank focuses on small and medium-sized businesses and commercial real estate investors. It takes customer deposits and uses that funding to make loans and hold investment securities. Borrowers supply most of its interest income, with securities providing another important source; earnings depend mainly on the interest left after paying depositors and other funding providers.
Deposits are its most important funding source, and businesses supply most of them. The bank therefore depends on retaining those balances at costs that leave room to earn on its loans and investments. Most loans have real estate as primary or secondary collateral, tying the business to Northern California borrowers’ ability to repay and local property values.
The parent company relies on dividends from Bank of Marin for nearly all its cash flow. Federal and state laws restrict those payments. California generally limits them by the bank’s retained earnings and recent profits, with larger payments requiring prior regulatory approval.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Five Star Bancorp’s Five Star Bank competes with Bank of Marin for business deposits and commercial property borrowers in Sacramento and the Bay Area. Its expansion into the Bay Area, including a Walnut Creek branch opened in September 2025, is worth watching for competition over those customers.
BayCom Corp’s United Business Bank competes with Bank of Marin for Northern California businesses’ banking needs, including small businesses and real estate professionals. Its progress in winning those client relationships is the part most relevant to Bank of Marin, rather than its broader branch network outside California.
Avidbank Holdings, Inc., through Avidbank, competes with Bank of Marin for Bay Area businesses’ loans and deposits, but has a greater focus on technology companies.
Oak Valley Bancorp’s Oak Valley Community Bank serves business borrowers in California’s Central Valley, including Sacramento-area customers that Bank of Marin also seeks.
Sierra Bancorp and Bank of Marin both use customer deposits to fund substantial California property-backed lending businesses, making property credit quality and lending margins shared concerns. Watch Sierra’s income from real-estate-secured loans: interest, fees and other income from these loans accounted for 61% of net interest plus other income in 2025.
Community West Bancshares’ Community West Bank competes directly with Bank of Marin for business loans and deposits in the Sacramento area.
Community West Bancshares earningsCWBC
Community West Bancshares’ report will show how Sacramento-area businesses are using loans and deposit services, where it competes with Bank of Marin for those customers.
Check Community West’s business-loan growth alongside changes in deposits. Growing loans with stable or rising deposits would point to resilient local borrowing demand and customer relationships, and to active competition for Bank of Marin; weakness in both would suggest local business activity may be cooling, but would not show that customers shifted to Bank of Marin.
Bank of Marin Bancorp earningsThis company
Bank of Marin Bancorp earns interest on loans and securities and pays interest on deposits, and this report will show whether that gap can keep widening as lending grows.
Read net interest margin alongside loan growth, then check whether the provision for credit losses or nonperforming loans increased. A wider margin with growing loans and contained credit costs would show the bank is expanding interest-earning business without losing control of funding costs; a narrower margin or rising credit costs would show deposit competition or borrower risk is eating into loan returns. Also check the company’s update on fixing controls over reciprocal-deposit classification to assess whether confidence in its reported figures is improving.
Sierra Bancorp earningsBSRR
Sierra Bancorp’s report will show income and credit conditions in property-backed lending, a shared business exposure with Bank of Marin.
Read Sierra’s income from real-estate-secured loans alongside credit losses and changes in delinquent or nonperforming loans. Steady income with contained credit problems would show its property lending is still generating returns and suggest a supportive backdrop for Bank of Marin; weaker income or worsening credit would flag potential pressure on similar California property lending, not establish that Bank of Marin has the same problem.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Bank of Marin earns income from interest on its loans, securities and bank deposits, while paying interest on customer deposits and borrowings, so Fed rate decisions can change the gap between what it earns and pays and affect net interest income.

If it comes in above expectations
If rates rise more than expected, interest on new and repricing loans and deposits may increase, but depositors may also demand higher rates; the effect on Bank of Marin’s net interest margin and earnings depends on which costs and yields adjust more and how quickly.
If it comes in below expectations
If rates fall more than expected, interest on new and repricing loans and deposits may decrease; lower deposit costs could support Bank of Marin’s margin, while lower loan yields could weigh on it, depending on which adjusts more and how quickly.
