Company

Company overview

Avidbank Holdings, Inc. owns Avidbank, a California state-chartered bank serving businesses, technology companies and individuals. It lends to small and midsized businesses for operations, expansion and acquisitions, and finances commercial real estate and construction. Most lending is concentrated in the San Francisco Bay Area, while its Venture Lending and Specialty Finance businesses serve clients nationwide.

Borrowers pay interest, and the bank’s main earnings come from interest on loans and investments minus the cost of deposits and other funding. Business customers also pay for account and cash-management services. Venture-backed clients often deposit more than they borrow; Avidbank uses that surplus to buy securities and fund lending elsewhere in the bank. These relationships therefore supply funding as well as loan customers.

The business depends on retaining deposits, borrowers’ cash flow and Bay Area property conditions. Venture borrowers often lack positive operating cash flow and depend on further investor funding to repay loans and replenish deposits. Banking rules impose capital requirements and lending limits. The holding company relies principally on dividends from Avidbank to meet its own obligations, and federal and California law restrict those payments.

    Fed Interest Rate Decision

For Avidbank, the Fed’s policy-rate decision matters because it changes the cost of deposits and other funding relative to what the bank earns on loans and securities, affecting net interest income.
