AdvanSix runs linked chemical plants in the United States. It makes caprolactam, a raw material for nylon, and converts much of it into Nylon 6 resin sold under the Aegis brand. The same production process also yields ammonium sulfate fertilizer, sold as Sulf-N. These nylon materials and fertilizer generate most sales. The linked operations also produce chemicals sold to manufacturers, notably acetone used in solvents and other applications.
Industrial customers buy its nylon materials and chemical intermediates, generally directly under contracts. Fertilizer buyers are mainly distributors, farm cooperatives and retailers in North and South America. Most revenue comes from U.S. customers. Shaw Industries Group Inc., its largest customer, buys caprolactam and Nylon 6 under a long-term agreement; a relatively small group of large customers accounts for a substantial share of sales.
Earnings depend mainly on production volume and the gap between selling prices and raw-material costs. Some customer contracts adjust prices as input costs change, while fertilizer prices are negotiated. Keeping the interconnected plants running is important to maintaining output. Each facility needs government permits to operate, and expansions or major modifications require additional approvals.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Beyond this list, watch BASF and other global producers for AdvanSix’s nylon and caprolactam competition, and Shaw Industries, its largest customer at 10% of sales.
Nutrien competes with AdvanSix for fertilizer buyers in plant nutrients, which accounted for 37% of AdvanSix’s 2025 sales. Nutrien’s fertilizer sales offer context for the agricultural demand behind AdvanSix’s ammonium sulfate sales to distributors, farm cooperatives and retailers.
CF Industries sells nitrogen fertilizers to agricultural buyers competing for the same nutrient spending as AdvanSix’s ammonium sulfate. Watch its granular urea pricing: urea prices influence global ammonium sulfate prices.
Eastman Chemical competes directly with AdvanSix to supply U.S. chemical formulators with alkyl-amines and functional amines. Its functional-amines business is the relevant area to watch for competition in ingredients used in products such as coatings, agricultural chemicals and water treatment.
Celanese competes with AdvanSix for industrial and engineered-plastics buyers through its nylon compounds and other engineered polymers. Watch its Engineered Materials business for demand in applications where AdvanSix sells Nylon 6.
LSB INDUSTRIES INC sells ammonia and urea-ammonium nitrate solution fertilizers into U.S. agricultural markets that also buy AdvanSix’s ammonium sulfate. Its fertilizer sales to ranch-land and grain-production markets offer a view of demand among those agricultural buyers.
LyondellBasell’s sales of commodity plastics and chemical intermediates offer clues to the demand and raw-material-sensitive margins facing AdvanSix’s nylon and intermediates businesses. Watch the gap between selling prices and feedstock costs in its polymer and intermediate-chemical operations, rather than treating it as a direct nylon rival.
Dow and AdvanSix both sell plastics into packaging and industrial markets, so demand and resin-price margins affect both businesses. Dow’s Packaging & Specialty Plastics results offer a window into the markets also served by AdvanSix’s Nylon 6, especially food and industrial packaging.
Dow Inc. earningsDOW
Dow’s Packaging & Specialty Plastics results will show whether food and industrial packaging demand is holding up in markets that also use AdvanSix’s Nylon 6.
Read Dow’s Packaging & Specialty Plastics sales alongside AdvanSix’s nylon volume and gross margin. Steady Dow sales with support in AdvanSix’s related business would point to resilient demand in their shared packaging markets; weakness at Dow would signal a tougher demand backdrop for AdvanSix’s nylon sales there. The conclusion is whether packaging demand is supporting or weighing on AdvanSix’s nylon business.
LSB INDUSTRIES INC earningsLXU
LSB Industries’ fertilizer sales will offer a read on demand from U.S. grain and ranch-land buyers, who also buy AdvanSix’s ammonium sulfate.
Look at LSB’s fertilizer sales and volume alongside AdvanSix’s ammonium sulfate sales. Strength in both would suggest agricultural buyers in grain and ranch-land markets are still purchasing, supporting AdvanSix’s demand base; weakening LSB sales would flag possible softness among those buyers and added pressure on AdvanSix sales. The conclusion is whether demand in their shared agricultural markets is holding up.
Eastman Chemical Company earningsEMN
Eastman Chemical’s functional-amines results will show how its sales to U.S. chemical formulators are faring, where it competes directly with AdvanSix.
Read Eastman’s functional-amines volume and profit performance alongside AdvanSix’s related chemical-intermediates volume and gross margin. Strength at Eastman would indicate supported formulator demand or effective competitor execution, leaving AdvanSix to defend customers and pricing; weakness could reflect soft demand or competitive difficulty, not proof that AdvanSix won the business. The conclusion is whether market demand or competitive pressure is the stronger signal.
LyondellBasell Industries N.V. earningsLYB
LyondellBasell’s polymer and chemical-intermediates results will show how selling prices compare with feedstock costs, a market reference for AdvanSix’s nylon and intermediates businesses.
Look at selling prices and feedstock costs in LyondellBasell’s polymer and intermediates businesses, focusing on the spread left after costs, and compare that with AdvanSix’s gross margin. Wider spreads alongside a firmer AdvanSix margin would point to a more favorable pricing environment; narrowing spreads with a weaker AdvanSix margin would suggest mounting pressure to cover costs. The conclusion is whether market price-cost conditions are helping or squeezing AdvanSix.
Celanese Corporation earningsCE
Celanese’s Engineered Materials results will show demand among industrial and engineered-plastics buyers, where its nylon compounds compete with AdvanSix’s Nylon 6 for some customers.
Read Celanese’s Engineered Materials sales performance alongside AdvanSix’s nylon volume and gross margin. Steady results at both would suggest demand is holding up in their overlapping industrial and engineered-plastics applications; weakness at Celanese could reflect softer demand or competitor-specific issues, not proof that AdvanSix won orders. The conclusion is whether demand in shared applications is resilient and whether competition is adding pressure on AdvanSix.
AdvanSix Inc. earningsThis company
AdvanSix’s report will show whether sales of nylon, caprolactam and ammonium sulfate, at the prices customers pay, cover raw-material costs well enough to support margins.
Read sales volume alongside gross margin, and note the company’s explanation of selling prices and raw-material costs. If volume and margin both strengthen, AdvanSix is selling more while keeping more after input costs; if volume rises but margin weakens, price-cost pressure is outweighing the extra sales. The conclusion is whether its integrated chemical business is turning production into a better spread between selling prices and input costs.
CF Industries Holding, Inc. earningsCF
CF Industries’ granular urea pricing will offer a clue to global ammonium sulfate prices, a market that affects AdvanSix’s fertilizer sales.
Track CF Industries’ reported granular urea price alongside AdvanSix’s ammonium sulfate selling prices and gross margin. Rising urea prices with steady AdvanSix prices would suggest the market is supporting its fertilizer business; falling urea prices alongside pressure on AdvanSix prices or margin would point to less support. The conclusion is whether global fertilizer pricing is helping AdvanSix sustain ammonium sulfate revenue.
Industrial Production MoM (Oct)
Industrial production tracks how much factories, mines and utilities make; stronger activity can lift customer orders for AdvanSix’s Nylon 6 resin, caprolactam and chemical intermediates used in plastics, packaging, paints and coatings, supporting sales volumes.
If output is rising, that points to firmer industrial demand that may support orders for AdvanSix’s Nylon 6 resin, caprolactam and chemical intermediates; falling output points to softer demand and possible pressure on those sales volumes.
