Company

Company overview

Abercrombie & Fitch serves men, women and children through its Abercrombie and Hollister brand families, selling clothing alongside accessories and personal care products. Shoppers buying from company-owned stores and digital channels provide most of its revenue. Abercrombie customers buy mainly online, while Hollister customers buy mainly in stores. The company sells internationally, but the United States supplies most sales.

The company orders merchandise before selling seasons, so earnings depend on matching its purchases to what customers want. Unsold styles may need markdowns, while buying too little can mean lost sales. Back-to-school and holiday shopping make fall its busiest selling season.

Independent manufacturers supply its merchandise, with much of the sourcing concentrated in Vietnam and Cambodia. The business therefore depends on suppliers delivering the right quality on time and at workable costs. Because most merchandise is made outside the United States, import tariffs also affect merchandise costs.

  • American Eagle Outfitters competes with Abercrombie and Hollister for young consumers’ clothing and accessories spending through its American Eagle and Aerie stores and digital channels. Watch sales at those two brands for a read on competition for these shoppers.

  • Urban Outfitters Inc competes with Abercrombie and Hollister for fashion-conscious shoppers buying casual clothing in stores and online through its Urban Outfitters and Free People brands. Those brands’ retail sales are the relevant part to watch, rather than its clothing-rental business.

  • Gap Inc. competes for Abercrombie’s casual-clothing customers through Gap and Banana Republic, while Old Navy competes with Hollister for families’ clothing spending. Watch these brands separately: Old Navy’s value clothing addresses a different part of that spending than Banana Republic’s higher-quality collections.

  • The Buckle, Inc. competes directly with Abercrombie and Hollister for shoppers buying casual clothing, especially denim and tops. Denim accounted for 42.5% of its fiscal 2025 net sales, making that category a useful place to watch this rivalry.

  • Levi Strauss & Co. competes with Abercrombie and Hollister for jeans and other casual-clothing purchases, selling directly to shoppers and through third parties. Watch Levi’s core products, including the 501 jean: they generated most of the brand’s global net revenue in fiscal 2025, 2024 and 2023.

  • PVH Corp.’s Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein compete with Abercrombie and Hollister in branded casual clothing, jeanswear and accessories sold to shoppers and retailers. Those two brands accounted for over 95% of PVH’s revenue in fiscal 2025 and 2024, so their performance is central to tracking this competitor.

  • Tilly's Inc. competes directly with Hollister and Abercrombie for teens buying casual clothing and accessories in stores and online. Its online net sales are one concrete measure to watch: they accounted for 22.1% of total net sales in fiscal 2025.

  • Zumiez Inc. competes with Hollister for young shoppers’ casual-clothing and accessories spending through stores and online. Its emphasis on action sports and streetwear makes sales to shoppers drawn to those styles the relevant part of this rivalry.
