Tilly's Inc. buys merchandise to sell to young men, young women and children in the United States. Most sales come from physical stores, with Tillys.com providing a smaller nationwide channel. Third-party brands account for most revenue, while its own brands, led by RSQ and Full Tilt, contribute a substantial share and generally earn higher gross margins. No single third-party brand dominates sales.
The business depends on stocking styles customers want and attracting shoppers to its stores, many of which are in malls, with a large concentration in California. Tilly's orders merchandise months before selling it, so matching purchases to demand matters: unsold stock may require discounts that reduce margins.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Zumiez competes with Tilly's for young shoppers buying overlapping selections of third-party lifestyle brands, footwear and hardgoods in stores and online. Its apparel and footwear sales offer a read on spending by young customers drawn to action sports and streetwear, a market Tilly's also serves.
American Eagle Outfitters competes with Tilly's for young consumers' clothing and accessories spending through stores and online, selling its own brands while Tilly's brings together outside and proprietary brands. Sales of American Eagle apparel are worth watching for a read on demand in the young-consumer market they share.
Abercrombie & Fitch competes with Tilly's for teens' casual-apparel spending through its Hollister business, which sells through stores and digital channels. Watch Hollister's store sales: stores accounted for most sales to its customers in fiscal 2025, making them a particularly relevant view of this rival to Tilly's.
Retail Sales MoM (Oct)
Retail sales track how much consumers spend at stores, and stronger demand for casual apparel, footwear and accessories could lift sales at Tilly’s stores and website.
Stronger retail sales suggest consumer spending may support Tilly’s store and website sales; weaker sales suggest less spending may weigh on purchases of its casual apparel, footwear and accessories.
Abercrombie & Fitch Co. earningsANF
Abercrombie & Fitch's report will show how teens are buying casual apparel at Hollister stores, offering Tilly's a read on the shoppers both businesses serve.
Watch Hollister's store sales. Stronger sales would show support for casual-apparel demand among teens both businesses pursue, a more favorable backdrop for Tilly's customer traffic and sales. Weaker sales would suggest those shoppers are pulling back on clothing, pointing to softer demand for Tilly's similar merchandise too.

Tilly's report will show whether demand in its stores and online is translating into sales without markdowns eating into profit.
Read comparable sales alongside gross margin. Comparable sales track changes in sales at qualifying stores and online against the same prior-year dates; gross margin is the share of sales left after merchandise, buying, distribution and occupancy costs. If both strengthen, demand is improving without those costs and markdowns consuming the gain. If sales weaken or gross margin falls, demand or merchandise profitability is under pressure, making a return to profit harder.
