The Buckle, Inc. sells mid- to higher-priced casual clothing, footwear and accessories to fashion-conscious men, women and children through its U.S. Buckle and Buckle Youth stores and Buckle.com. Denim and tops generate most sales. It carries outside brands alongside its own labels, including BKE and Buckle Black; outside brands contribute slightly more sales than private labels.
The business depends on choosing styles customers want and getting them onto shelves promptly. Axis Denim, a producer of its private-label denim, supplies merchandise that accounts for a substantial share of sales. Most stores are in shopping malls, and the holiday and back-to-school seasons bring the highest sales volumes.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Buckle’s results hinge on denim demand and merchandise margins, making Axis Denim worth watching: it produces private-label denim that accounted for 20.6% of Buckle’s fiscal 2025 sales.
American Eagle Outfitters competes directly with Buckle for men and women buying casual clothing, selling apparel and accessories through stores and online. Its American Eagle clothing sales are the part to watch for competition over those shoppers.
Abercrombie & Fitch Co. competes with Buckle for men’s and women’s fashion spending through its Abercrombie and Hollister clothing brands, in stores and online. Watch both channels: digital generated most Abercrombie-brand sales in fiscal 2025, while stores generated most Hollister sales.
Urban Outfitters Inc competes with Buckle for fashion-conscious clothing shoppers through its Urban Outfitters and Free People stores and online sales. Those brands’ retail sales are more relevant to that rivalry than its monthly-fee clothing rental business, Nuuly.
The Gap, Inc. competes with Buckle for men’s and women’s casual-clothing purchases in stores and online. Its namesake Gap brand’s apparel and accessory sales are the clearest place to watch that overlap, rather than Athleta’s women’s and girls’ performance clothing.
Boot Barn Holdings, Inc. competes with Buckle for shoppers buying denim, shirts and lifestyle accessories through stores and online, but leans more heavily toward western and work footwear. Its apparel sales are the closer comparison for Buckle; boots accounted for 46% of Boot Barn’s fiscal 2026 sales.
Dillard’s competes with Buckle for men’s and women’s fashion-clothing purchases, selling through department stores and online with a broader range that includes cosmetics and home goods. Watch its women’s apparel and men’s apparel-and-accessory sales rather than treating all department-store revenue as a read on Buckle.
Kohl’s competes with Buckle for shoppers buying moderately priced clothing, with both retailers selling national brands and private labels. Kohl’s clothing sales through stores and Kohls.com are the relevant overlap, rather than its beauty and home products.
Macy’s competes with Buckle for middle-to-higher-income shoppers’ fashion-clothing spending, including purchases in shopping malls. Watch clothing sales to Macy’s namesake customer base rather than the group’s broader beauty and home-goods business.
Boot Barn Holdings, Inc. earningsBOOT
Boot Barn’s report will show whether apparel demand holds up in the denim, shirt and accessory market it shares with The Buckle.
Separate Boot Barn’s apparel sales from its boot sales. Firm apparel sales would support the view that demand for clothing shared with The Buckle is holding up; weaker apparel alongside stronger boots would show that footwear is masking softness in the overlapping clothing market.
Retail Sales MoM (Oct)
Retail sales track how much consumers spend at stores, and stronger spending can support purchases of Buckle’s denim, tops and other apparel through its stores and website, lifting net sales.
If retail sales rise, consumer spending may support demand for Buckle’s merchandise and net sales; if they fall, weaker spending may weigh on customer purchases and net sales.

The Buckle’s report will show whether shoppers keep buying its denim- and tops-heavy assortment and whether those sales protect merchandise margins.
Read comparable-store sales growth alongside merchandise margin, which is sales less merchandise cost; comparable sales include online sales. If both hold up, customer demand and the profit earned on merchandise are supporting the business. Slower sales or a falling margin would point to weaker shopping demand, or a less profitable product mix or higher merchandise costs.
