Ameris Bancorp serves businesses and individuals through Ameris Bank, with banking offices concentrated in the southeastern United States. Customer deposits provide its main funding for loans and securities investments. Borrowers supply most of its interest income; after interest paid on deposits and other funding, the remaining net interest income accounts for most revenue.
Residential mortgage banking is its largest source of income outside that interest business. It originates home loans, sells them to secondary-market buyers and earns income from mortgage servicing.
The business depends on retaining deposits, the gap between lending yields and funding costs, and borrowers’ ability to repay. Most loans are secured by real estate, and commercial and farmland property loans form its largest loan category, tying the business closely to regional property conditions. Ameris Bancorp itself relies on dividends from the bank for cash to meet its obligations; federal and state laws limit those payments, and both the company and bank must maintain regulatory capital.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
United Community Banks, Inc. competes with Ameris Bancorp for business borrowers, homebuyers and depositors across Georgia, the Carolinas, Florida and Alabama. Its business-loan rates are worth watching: United Community says competition and deposit costs help determine what it charges borrowers.
SouthState Bank Corporation competes with Ameris Bancorp for deposits that fund business, real estate and home loans across Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. Watch the interest SouthState pays depositors alongside its loan interest and fees to gauge the terms Ameris faces in those markets.
Seacoast Banking Corp of Florida competes with Ameris Bancorp for Florida businesses and individuals seeking loans, mortgages and deposit accounts. Its loan interest and fees, and fees from deposit services, give a focused view of the Florida banking business they both pursue.
Home BancShares, Inc., through Centennial Bank, competes with Ameris Bancorp for Florida businesses and real estate borrowers.
First Citizens BancShares Inc competes with Ameris Bancorp for Southeastern business and consumer deposits and loans; both also finance commercial equipment. Its equipment-financing business is another area to watch alongside Ameris's equipment-finance income, which rose 41.1% to $30.6 million in 2025.
Merchants Bancorp and Ameris Bancorp both lend to mortgage lenders against the home loans they originate—a business called mortgage warehousing—and both finance residential real estate. Watch Merchants' Mortgage Warehousing segment for a closer comparison with Ameris's lending to mortgage businesses than its overall bank results provide.
CUSTOMERS BANCORP INC overlaps with Ameris Bancorp in mortgage finance, equipment finance and commercial real estate loans, including lending products marketed nationally. Watch those loan businesses rather than Customers' total results to compare the areas where the two banks meet.
First Financial Bancorp's nationwide Agile Premium Finance business and Ameris Bancorp both lend businesses money to pay insurance premiums; both also finance equipment. Agile's loans pay annual property and casualty premiums and average about ten months at origination, making that business a focused comparison for Ameris's commercial premium lending.
Hancock Whitney Corporation competes with Ameris Bancorp for business banking customers in Florida and Alabama, and both provide financing for commercial equipment.
Trustmark Corp competes with Ameris Bancorp for banking customers in Atlanta, Alabama and Florida, though its Florida business mainly serves the Panhandle. That narrower Florida footprint matters when comparing the banks' customer news: Trustmark is not a statewide Florida counterpart.
FB Financial Corporation competes with Ameris Bancorp for business banking and mortgage customers in Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina. Watch its relationships with established businesses: FB seeks their operating deposits as well as banking business from their owners and employees.
Atlantic Union Bankshares Corporation competes with Ameris Bancorp in North Carolina banking, and both lend to businesses, finance equipment and make home loans. Its equipment finance sits in Wholesale Banking and its home-loan division in Consumer Banking, giving two specific businesses to compare with Ameris.
United Community Banks, Inc. earningsUCB
United Community Banks' report will show how business-loan income and deposit costs are changing, giving a read on the pricing pressure it and Ameris Bancorp face when competing for business borrowers.
Read United Community Banks' business-loan income alongside its deposit costs. If loan income holds up relative to funding costs, it may still be able to maintain loan pricing in a competitive market; if loan income weakens while deposit costs remain firm, business-loan competition may be intensifying and make it harder for Ameris to hold its pricing.
SouthState Bank Corporation earningsSSB
SouthState's report will show deposit interest expense alongside loan interest and fees, revealing the funding terms it and Ameris Bancorp face in shared markets.
Read SouthState's deposit interest expense alongside loan interest and fees. Stable deposit costs with loan interest and fees holding up suggest banks can still absorb competition for funding; deposit costs rising faster than those earnings point to more expensive funding and greater cost pressure for Ameris.
Ameris Bancorp earningsThis company
Ameris Bancorp earns mainly from loan and other interest income exceeding its funding costs, and this report will show whether that gap holds as credit costs change.
Read net interest margin (net interest income as a share of average interest-earning assets) alongside loan-loss provisions, and note how loan yields compare with deposit costs. A rising margin without a marked increase in provisions means interest income is holding up against funding costs and borrower stress; a falling margin or higher provisions means the core earnings engine is under pressure.
First Financial Bancorp earningsFFBC
First Financial Bancorp's report will show activity and loan performance in its premium-finance business, a focused comparison for Ameris Bancorp's own commercial premium lending.
Look at First Financial Bancorp's premium-finance lending activity and loan performance. Active lending with sound loan performance suggests demand and repayment in this business—financing companies' insurance premiums—are holding up; weaker activity or deteriorating loans would flag demand or credit risks to watch in Ameris's comparable business.
Merchants Bancorp earningsMBIN
Merchants Bancorp's report will show lending activity and loan performance in mortgage warehousing, where it and Ameris Bancorp both finance mortgage lenders against the home loans they originate.
Look at Merchants Bancorp's mortgage-warehousing loan balances and credit performance, and whether balance changes come with changes in repayment. Steady lending activity and sound loan performance suggest mortgage lenders still need this short-term funding and are repaying; weaker activity or poorer performance points to changing demand or risk in a market that can also affect Ameris's warehouse lending.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Ameris Bancorp earns most of its revenue from the difference between interest on loans and investments and interest paid on deposits and borrowings, so Fed rate decisions can change its net interest income.

If it comes in above expectations
Higher rates can benefit Ameris Bancorp’s asset-sensitive position as some loan and investment income reprices upward, though sharply rising rates may curb loan originations and squeeze the benefit.
If it comes in below expectations
Lower rates can reduce the return on repricing assets, while faster loan prepayments may also cut interest earnings; cheaper deposit and borrowing costs may partly offset the pressure.
