Company overview

Zenas BioPharma is developing obexelimab for IgG4-related disease, multiple sclerosis and lupus, and orelabrutinib for progressive forms of multiple sclerosis. None of its candidates is approved for sale. It plans to sell obexelimab through its own commercial organization in the United States and Europe if approved, while using partners in other markets.

Its revenue so far has come from licensing agreements rather than drug sales. Zai Lab paid an upfront fee for rights to ZB001 and related programs in greater China, supplying all of Zenas’s most recently reported revenue. Bristol Myers Squibb holds exclusive obexelimab rights in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia; Zenas retains commercialization rights elsewhere. BMS has paid an upfront license fee, and further payments depend on development, regulatory and sales milestones, with royalties payable if BMS successfully brings the drug to market.

Zenas depends on additional financing to fund development before substantial product revenue arrives. It also relies on WuXi Biologics as its single-source manufacturer for obexelimab drug product and on InnoCare for orelabrutinib trial supplies. Commercial sales require regulatory approval; the FDA has also placed a partial clinical hold on the ongoing orelabrutinib trial in relapsing multiple sclerosis.

Zenas’s prospects depend on obexelimab’s clinical and commercial success, reliable supply from WuXi Biologics and its InnoCare-licensed pipeline, with Roche also worth watching as a major multiple-sclerosis rival.

  • Zenas obtained obexelimab and other antibody rights from Xencor, so success also brings payments to Xencor rather than leaving all the proceeds with Zenas. Obexelimab approvals and sales can trigger milestone payments, followed by royalties on net sales.

  • Amgen already sells Uplizna for adults with IgG4-related disease, putting Zenas’s obexelimab up against an approved treatment. Watch Uplizna’s uptake in these patients, rather than Amgen’s overall medicine sales, for a read on the market obexelimab hopes to enter.

  • Sanofi challenges Zenas on two fronts: rilzabrutinib competes with obexelimab in IgG4-related disease, while tolebrutinib and frexalimab target progressive multiple sclerosis. Watch its trial results, particularly in non-relapsing secondary progressive MS, for the competing treatments Zenas’s orelabrutinib may face.

  • Bristol Myers Squibb pays Zenas for obexelimab rights and supply in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia, but its lupus and MS medicines also compete with Zenas’s programs. Watch obexelimab development and sales in those markets for potential milestone and royalty income; Zenas recognized no revenue from this agreement in 2024 or 2025.

  • Novartis competes with Zenas’s orelabrutinib through its remibrutinib MS program and already sells established MS medicines such as Kesimpta and Mayzent. Remibrutinib’s Phase 3 results in relapsing and secondary progressive MS are the news to watch for Zenas’s competitive position.

  • Biogen’s marketed MS medicines compete with the market Zenas targets, while its Phase 3 litifilimab lupus program competes with obexelimab. Litifilimab trial results offer a more direct read on Zenas’s lupus competition than Biogen’s company-wide revenue.

  • Climb Bio’s budoprutug competes with Zenas’s obexelimab as an antibody targeting CD19 in autoimmune disease. Watch budoprutug’s clinical progress, not product sales: Climb Bio had no approved products or revenue through December 31, 2025.

  • Cullinan Therapeutics competes with Zenas’s obexelimab in autoimmune disease through CLN-978, which brings T cells to CD19-bearing B cells to deplete them rather than using the same B-cell-control approach. Watch CLN-978’s clinical results to assess this alternative, not Cullinan’s claimed potential advantages from preclinical work.

  • Immunic’s oral vidofludimus calcium competes with Zenas’s MS programs in relapsing disease and is also being studied in progressive MS. Its Phase 3 relapsing-MS results are the immediate competitive signal to watch; Immunic had no approved products or product-sales revenue as of December 31, 2025.

  • TG Therapeutics already sells Briumvi to treat adults with relapsing MS, competing for the market Zenas’s MS programs aim to enter. Watch its U.S. Briumvi sales for demand for an established antibody treatment in that patient group.

  • Zenas depends on Zai Lab to develop, manufacture and sell ZB001 and related programs in Greater China, in return for potential milestone payments and sales royalties. Watch ZB001’s development and approval progress there: no milestones had been achieved or deemed probable by December 31, 2025, and some future proceeds must be passed on to Viridian.
