Sprout Social brings social messages, data and workflows from different networks into one platform, helping businesses and agencies manage their social media activity. Customers choose a core subscription plan and pay per user per month, with additional charges for modules such as Listening. Subscriptions supply almost all revenue.
The company serves small businesses through global brands and public institutions, but increasingly directs its sales efforts toward mid-market and enterprise customers. Its subscription business depends on customers renewing, keeping or upgrading their plans, and paying for more users and products—not just on winning new accounts.
The platform also depends on social networks continuing to provide data and connections through their application programming interfaces, or APIs. Those networks control access and pricing, so changes can force Sprout Social to alter or discontinue integrations. Amazon Web Services supplies most of its cloud hosting capacity. Privacy rules restrict how the company can use personal data, and cross-border transfer rules can limit its ability to bring data into the United States.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Sprout Social’s results also depend on competition with privately held Hootsuite and Khoros, which it names alongside Sprinklr as primary rivals.
Sprinklr competes with Sprout Social for enterprise marketing and customer-facing teams buying social-media management and consumer-insight software. Watch customer adoption of Sprinklr Social and Sprinklr Insights, where their offerings overlap.
HubSpot competes with part of Sprout Social’s offering to business marketing teams: its Marketing Hub includes tools for publishing social posts and monitoring social activity.
Braze and Sprout Social both depend on brands’ spending on digital customer engagement: brands pay Braze subscriptions to reach customers, while similar marketing organizations pay Sprout Social to manage social engagement. Watch Braze customers adding channels or sending more messages as a sign of their willingness to spend on customer engagement.
Klaviyo and Sprout Social depend on marketing teams’ spending on digital marketing and customer retention: Klaviyo sells messaging and customer-data subscriptions, while Sprout Social sells social-media engagement and analysis tools. Klaviyo’s retail and eCommerce customers are a group to watch for that spending.
Sprout Social depends on Meta Platforms for Facebook and Instagram data and the software connections that let its paying business customers manage social activity. Meta sells advertising to marketers on those networks; watch changes to data access and those connections, known as APIs.
Sprout Social relies on Pinterest’s social data and software connections to help paying customers manage and analyze their activity there, while Pinterest earns advertising revenue from brands and retailers. Changes to that data access and those connections, known as APIs, matter for Sprout Social’s Pinterest tools.
Sprout Social depends on Reddit’s social data and software connections for its subscription tools that manage and analyze activity across networks, while Reddit sells businesses advertising around its communities. Watch Reddit’s news on data access and those connections, known as APIs, for implications for Sprout Social’s coverage of Reddit.
Meta Platforms, Inc. earningsMETA
If Meta Platforms reports changes to Facebook or Instagram data access or APIs, its report can show whether Sprout Social's tools for those networks may be affected.
Look for Meta's disclosures about Facebook and Instagram data access, APIs or related terms; its advertising revenue is not a direct measure of demand for Sprout Social. Stable access would help Sprout maintain its management and analytics tools on those networks. Restricted access, higher costs or changed APIs could require product work and leave customers with fewer capabilities.
Sprout Social, Inc earningsThis company
Sprout Social earns subscription revenue from social-media software, and this report will show whether growth among larger customers can offset existing customers shrinking or leaving.
Read dollar-based net retention alongside growth in customers contributing at least $30,000 in annual recurring revenue (ARR). Net retention captures how expansion, contraction and cancellations change subscription revenue from existing customers. Improving retention with continued growth in larger customers would show both existing accounts and large-customer expansion supporting subscriptions; weakening retention and slower growth in that customer group would show that the move upmarket is not offsetting contraction or losses.
Sprinklr, Inc. earningsCXM
Sprinklr's report can show whether enterprise teams are adopting its social-management and consumer-insight products, which compete with Sprout Social for those buyers.
Look for Sprinklr's comments on customer adoption of Sprinklr Social and Sprinklr Insights. Continued adoption would show that enterprises are buying these kinds of tools and that Sprout Social still faces competition for those buyers. Slower adoption could ease that pressure, but would not prove Sprout is winning the customers.
Braze, Inc. earningsBRZE
Braze's report can show whether brands are still expanding customer-engagement spending, offering a signal about demand for Sprout Social's social-engagement tools.
Watch whether Braze customers add channels or send more messages. Expansion on either front would suggest brands remain willing to spend on customer engagement, supporting demand for Sprout Social's related tools; slower expansion or fewer messages could signal tighter budgets and pressure on that demand. This is a signal from an adjacent spending area, not proof that the companies sell the same product.
