Company overview

ATRenew connects people selling or trading in used electronics with merchants and consumers buying them, primarily in China. Through AHS Recycle’s stores and online channels, it buys devices from consumers, merchants and electronics brands, then checks their condition, assigns grades and sets prices. It sells devices to merchants through PJT Marketplace and to consumers through Paipai Marketplace and other channels. These product sales provide the vast majority of revenue; its earnings depend on the difference between purchase and resale prices.

The marketplaces also let third-party merchants sell products. ATRenew earns transaction commissions from merchants and buyers on PJT Marketplace, and from merchants on Paipai Marketplace, giving it a smaller service-revenue stream alongside its own product sales.

The business needs a steady supply of used devices, willing buyers and trusted inspection and pricing. Offline AHS stores collect a large part of that supply, while JD Group provides customer traffic, technology support and logistics. Chinese regulations require AHS Recycle to record information about each used electronic product it sources, and knowingly selling stolen goods can bring administrative penalties or criminal liability.

  • JD.com’s sales of new electronics connect to ATRenew’s supply of used devices and transaction volumes: JD sells to customers, while ATRenew handles linked trade-ins and resells the used devices. Watch JD’s device sales and trade-in activity; its platform also brings consumers seeking value-for-money used electronics to ATRenew’s Paipai Marketplace.

  • Alibaba Group’s Xianyu competes with ATRenew’s marketplaces for Chinese consumers buying and selling second-hand electronics. For ATRenew holders, the overlap to watch is Xianyu’s appeal to those buyers and sellers, rather than Alibaba’s broader businesses.

  • Apple’s new smartphone launches can bring ATRenew more customer traffic and used-phone transactions as customers upgrade: Apple sells new phones, while ATRenew buys and resells used ones. Watch Apple’s annual launches for possible increases in ATRenew’s traffic and purchase orders, though ATRenew says its historical seasonality has been relatively mild.

  • Inno Holdings Inc. competes with ATRenew’s AHS Device business in sourcing used electronics and selling them to wholesale distributors in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Watch Inno’s used-iPhone revenue as a window into this overlapping business: recycled iPhones generated all its revenue in the year ended September 30, 2025.
