Company

Company overview

Pentair supplies equipment that homes and businesses use to treat and move water and keep pools running. Its Water Solutions and Pool businesses together generate most sales under its current structure. Water Solutions supplies filtration and softening systems for household and commercial use, including foodservice, as well as residential and irrigation pumps. Pool sells equipment such as pumps, filters, heaters and cleaners for existing pools and new construction, so its sales serve maintenance, repair and renovation as well as pool building.

Its other business, Flow, supplies pumps and fluid-treatment systems for commercial, infrastructure and industrial uses, including wastewater treatment, flood control and industrial filtration. Pentair earns money from selling this equipment rather than supplying water itself.

A single unnamed Pool customer accounts for a substantial share of company-wide sales, making that relationship important. Demand for pool equipment and residential and agricultural water products rises in warmer months and is also affected by weather. Product-efficiency, performance and materials rules restrict which products Pentair can sell in particular locations.

Pentair’s profit-leading Pool business depends on replacement and renovation demand, with Zodiac Pool Systems another major supplier to Pool Corporation to watch for competition.

  • Hayward Holdings competes with Pentair for pool-equipment sales through the same wholesalers, serving new pools, replacements and upgrades. Its sales of replacement equipment and upgrades to connected or energy-efficient models are a useful gauge of demand for Pentair’s pool pumps, filters and controls.

  • Pool Corporation buys Pentair’s pool equipment and resells it through its wholesale network; Pentair supplied approximately 20% of its cost of products sold in 2025. Watch its pool-equipment sales for a read on the replacement, renovation and new-pool demand that reaches Pentair.

  • Franklin Electric competes with Pentair to sell water pumps and treatment systems to residential, agricultural, municipal and industrial customers. Its Water Systems sales of groundwater and surface pumps, motors and controls offer a more relevant comparison for Pentair than its fuel-equipment business.

  • A. O. Smith competes with Pentair in U.S. water-treatment products, but its broader business is dominated by water heaters for homes and commercial buildings. Its U.S. water-treatment sales are the relevant comparison for Pentair, rather than overall water-heater results.

  • Ingersoll Rand competes with Pentair to supply pumps and equipment that move liquids for water, wastewater, food and beverage, and other industrial customers, selling directly and through distributors. Its pump and liquid-transfer sales in these markets are the part to compare with Pentair’s Flow business, rather than its wider compressor and life-science operations.
