New Fortress Energy Inc. connects natural-gas supply with power plants and industrial users. It liquefies gas for transport by ship, then uses its terminals to deliver LNG or turn it back into gas for customers. Fuel sales to outside customers provide most of its revenue. It also supplies its own gas-fired power plants.
Key customers include PREPA in Puerto Rico and CFE in Mexico. Some long-term contracts require customers to pay for minimum volumes even if they do not take delivery. Customer prices largely follow Henry Hub, a U.S. natural-gas benchmark, plus a fixed fee. Its subsidiary Genera also earns a management fee and expense reimbursements for operating and maintaining PREPA’s thermal power-generation assets.
Its FLNG 1 liquefaction unit supplies a significant portion of its LNG needs. Demand beyond that unit’s capacity is met through open-market purchases until contracted long-term supplies begin. Those purchases expose it to LNG prices that may move differently from customer pricing. Cash generation also depends heavily on a small group of customers, including CFE and PREPA. PREPA is in bankruptcy proceedings, and its ability to pay depends largely on federal funding.
The company is pursuing a debt restructuring that would transfer its Brazil business to creditors. Its ability to keep operating depends on completing the restructuring and delaying capital spending; signing the support agreement did not resolve its funding shortfall. Completion remains subject to approvals and other conditions.
Operations also depend on regulatory authorization. Its San Juan Facility is allowed to continue operating while its application for authorization from the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission remains pending.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Beyond these peers, watch PREPA and CFE: NFE’s results also hinge on their contracted gas demand, LNG procurement costs and completion of its restructuring.
Excelerate Energy, Inc. overlaps with NFE in delivering gas from LNG and power to customers through downstream terminals, and bought NFE’s Jamaican terminals and power plant in May 2025. Its Jamaican operations offer a comparison for the business NFE sold, but Excelerate’s 2025 results include only a partial year of those operations.
Golar LNG Ltd and NFE both benefit from demand to turn hard-to-develop gas reserves into saleable LNG using floating liquefaction facilities. Golar supplies those facilities as a service to gas-resource owners, while NFE uses Fast LNG to meet its own supply needs; watch demand for Golar’s projects as a gauge of interest in developing stranded gas offshore.
Cheniere Energy competes with NFE in producing and selling LNG to energy companies, utilities and traders, while its spot-marketing business operates in the cargo market where NFE both buys and sells. Watch Cheniere Marketing’s sales of uncontracted LNG rather than just long-term contract revenue when assessing the market for NFE’s cargo sales and open-market purchases.
Venture Global competes with NFE for LNG sales, not downstream terminal services: both use modular facilities to liquefy gas and sell LNG to customers. Watch Venture Global’s sales during plant testing and of excess production, which put cargoes into the market alongside NFE’s LNG sales.
Cheniere Energy Partners overlaps with NFE’s LNG production and cargo sales by supplying LNG from Sabine Pass to utilities, energy companies and traders. Its customers generally owe fixed fees even when they cancel deliveries, so its long-term contract revenue is a less direct gauge of the cargo market facing NFE than those sales might suggest.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
The Fed’s policy-rate decision sets the economy-wide benchmark for borrowing costs, which could change what New Fortress Energy pays to refinance or borrow against its roughly $8.3 billion of debt.

If it comes in above expectations
If the policy rate is above expectations, borrowing and refinancing across the economy become more expensive; to the extent New Fortress Energy can refinance or obtain new funding, its financing costs could rise, adding pressure to liquidity already strained by debt defaults and cash outflows.
If it comes in below expectations
If the policy rate is below expectations, borrowing and refinancing across the economy become cheaper; to the extent New Fortress Energy can refinance or obtain new funding, its financing costs could ease, though that would not by itself resolve its debt defaults or liquidity shortfall.
Cheniere Energy Inc earningsLNG
Cheniere Energy's sales of uncontracted LNG will show how much cargo-market supply New Fortress Energy faces as both a seller and an open-market buyer.
Watch Cheniere Marketing's sales of LNG not covered by long-term contracts. More such cargoes mean more competing supply for New Fortress Energy's sales, but may also give it more options when buying on the open market. Fewer cargoes may ease competition when it sells, while leaving fewer sources to buy from. This is a signal about the cargo market, not a measure of New Fortress Energy's own contract costs or margins.
Excelerate Energy, Inc. earningsEE
If Excelerate Energy reports on its Jamaican operations, its results will show how the terminals and power plant New Fortress Energy sold are faring under their new owner.
If Excelerate reports Jamaican deliveries or revenue separately, distinguish those figures from its overall results. Steady activity would show that the assets New Fortress Energy sold are still serving local gas and power demand, but the revenue now goes to Excelerate. Weaker activity would mean a smaller contribution to the new owner and show that these assets are not replacing New Fortress Energy's lost Jamaican revenue.
New Fortress Energy Inc. earningsThis company
New Fortress Energy's report will show whether deliveries to its major customers are turning into cash from operations.
Read customer deliveries alongside operating cash flow—the cash the business brings in or uses through its operations. Higher deliveries with positive operating cash flow would show that contract demand is funding the supply and operating chain. Weaker deliveries or cash outflow would show that customer demand and cash collection are not yet enough to support it, leaving the business reliant on financing or restructuring.
