Malibu Boats makes boats for watersports, fishing and recreational cruising. Malibu and Axis watersports boats, Pursuit and Maverick Boat Group fishing boats, and Cobalt luxury boats account for most of its business; Saxdor adds premium adventure dayboats. Boat and trailer sales provide nearly all revenue, with replacement parts, accessories and other sales contributing much less. Optional features chosen by buyers increase the amount earned on a boat sale.
Independent dealers buy the boats and sell them to consumers. Most U.S. shipments go to dealers using inventory financing: lenders pay Malibu Boats the boat invoice price, and dealers borrow to stock their showrooms. This makes dealer financing and willingness to carry inventory important to orders. A small group of dealers supplies most sales, with OneWater Marine a major customer, particularly for saltwater fishing boats. Under some financing arrangements, Malibu Boats must buy boats back if a dealer defaults and the lender repossesses them.
Orders ultimately depend on consumers buying boats, often with borrowed money, and on dealers replenishing inventory as those boats sell. Most revenue comes from the United States. Export controls and sanctions also limit sales to certain countries, entities and individuals unless government authorization is obtained.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Malibu also depends on Yamaha for outboard engines fitted to a significant percentage of its Pursuit, Cobalt and Maverick Boat Group boats.
MasterCraft Boat Holdings competes with Malibu for buyers and dealers of wake, recreational and fishing boats, but also pays Malibu to use its boat technology. Watch MasterCraft’s boat sales and pricing for signs of competitive pressure on Malibu.
OneWater Marine buys Malibu boats to sell to retail customers; dealers under its control accounted for approximately 22.3% of Malibu’s consolidated net sales in fiscal 2026. Watch its new-boat retail sales and inventory decisions, which affect how many boats Malibu ships to dealers.
Brunswick competes with Malibu in recreational and fishing boats while its Mercury business sells Malibu engines for certain Cobalt and Maverick models. Mercury engine supply news therefore matters to those models, not just to Malibu’s competition.
MarineMax sells Malibu’s Saxdor boats to retail buyers, but also builds luxury dayboats and fishing boats that compete with parts of Malibu’s range. Malibu expected MarineMax to account for more than 10% of Saxdor sales contributed in fiscal 2027, making its Saxdor retail performance worth watching.
Winnebago Industries competes for luxury recreational boat buyers through Chris-Craft, which rivals Malibu’s Cobalt boats. Its substantial RV operations make Chris-Craft, rather than the whole company’s results, the closer comparison for Cobalt.
Malibu relies on automaker General Motors for engine blocks used in Malibu and Axis boats; a past delivery suspension forced Malibu to pay for additional engines from other suppliers. Watch renewal of the supply agreement, which expires at the end of calendar 2026 and was under negotiation.

General Motors’ report may offer clues about engine supply and the agreement renewal that affect production of Malibu and Axis boats.
Watch what General Motors says about engine supply and renewing the agreement. Steady supply and a renewal path would help Malibu keep Malibu and Axis production on plan; constrained supply or no continuation would put those boats at risk of delays or costlier replacement engines.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Malibu Boats sells boats wholesale through dealers, so Fed decisions that influence borrowing costs can affect buyers’ ability to finance a boat and the company’s cost of borrowing.

If it comes in above expectations
Higher rates may lead boat buyers to delay purchases or choose less expensive models, weakening dealer orders and Malibu Boats’ wholesale sales; the company also pays more on debt whose rates reset.
If it comes in below expectations
Lower rates may make boat financing more affordable, supporting buyer demand, dealer orders and Malibu Boats’ wholesale sales; borrowing costs may also fall on debt whose rates reset.

Malibu Boats’ report will show whether revenue from boats shipped to dealers is growing enough to offset pressure on margins from material and labor costs.
Read boat sales and gross margin together. More sales with a recovering margin would show that shipments are covering higher material and labor costs per boat. If sales grow but margin keeps falling, costs are still absorbing the added revenue and profit has not caught up.
