Karooooo’s main business, Cartrack, helps businesses monitor vehicles, equipment and workforces, while also serving individual vehicle owners. Devices collect location and operating data and send it over cellular networks to a platform that turns it into maps, live reports and alerts. Customers use web and mobile applications to track assets and make operating decisions.
Cartrack subscriptions supply most of the company’s revenue. Customers generally pay monthly, with charges tied to the number of connected vehicles or assets and the price per asset. Hardware sales and installation fees contribute little. The smaller Karooooo Logistics business helps enterprises manage last-mile deliveries, earning mainly per delivery through third-party drivers and logistics companies.
Revenue depends on adding connected assets, retaining subscribers and selling them additional features. South Africa supplies most of the company’s revenue; insurers there support demand by requiring tracking devices for certain vehicles or offering premium discounts. The service depends on cellular coverage and satellite positioning. Privacy laws constrain how it collects, uses and transfers customer data, and restrictions on cross-border transfers can require local hosting.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Karooooo’s results hinge on fleet-subscription growth, especially in South Africa, where privately held Geotab is a competitor to watch that this list cannot show.
PowerFleet and Karooooo compete for commercial fleet customers, including in South Africa, selling platforms that track assets and help manage operations, safety and compliance. Watch PowerFleet’s Unity platform: its coverage of warehouse, yard and road assets lets it compete for customers wanting one system across their asset base.
Descartes Systems Group competes with Karooooo for businesses paying for route planning, delivery tracking and logistics software. Its routing and tracking business is the part to watch for competition with Karooooo Logistics, which helps enterprises manage last-mile deliveries.
Trimble competes with Karooooo for transportation and logistics customers buying software to understand fleet activity and manage connected transport operations. Watch Trimble’s Transportation and Logistics segment rather than its company-wide results, which also include construction and field systems businesses.
PowerFleet, Inc. earningsAIOT
Powerfleet's report will show whether commercial fleets seeking one system for warehouse, yard and road assets are choosing its platform, revealing the competitive pressure on Cartrack.
Look for evidence of customer adoption and the range of assets covered by Unity. Broader adoption would show that fleets are willing to manage more of their operations through Powerfleet's single system, increasing the competitive pressure on Karooooo's commercial subscriptions. Limited adoption would point to less pressure from this integrated-platform offer.
Descartes Systems Group Inc earningsDSGX
Descartes Systems Group's report will show whether businesses are still paying for routing and delivery-tracking software, a market shared with Karooooo Logistics.
Focus on Descartes Systems Group's routing and tracking business. Stronger results would show that businesses continue paying for logistics software, supporting demand in the market Karooooo Logistics serves. Weaker results would point to softer willingness to pay for these tools and a harder market for Karooooo's last-mile delivery business.
