Company

Company overview

HUTCHMED’s cancer and immunology business contributes slightly more than half its revenue, while prescription-drug distribution in China supplies nearly all the rest. Within the drug-development business, approved cancer medicines generate most revenue; partners also pay for development work and licensing rights.

Fruquintinib is its main commercial drug: Eli Lilly partners with HUTCHMED on Elunate in China, while Takeda markets it as Fruzaqla outside China. HUTCHMED supplies medicines and receives royalties linked to partner sales; Lilly also pays it to promote Elunate in China. Fruzaqla is its largest oncology product-revenue line, making Takeda an important source of revenue. AstraZeneca similarly pays for supplies and royalties on Orpathys, while HUTCHMED sells its unpartnered medicine Sulanda to distributors.

The separate distribution business, jointly owned with Sinopharm, markets and delivers third-party prescription drugs to hospitals and clinics, with some sales through other distributors. Sinopharm and its associates are also major customers of HUTCHMED.

The drug business depends on partners’ commercialization efforts, physician prescribing and insurance coverage. New medicines and additional uses need regulatory approval, and existing approvals restrict which conditions the drugs may treat. Manufacturing and distribution require permits, while government reimbursement and pricing decisions in China affect demand and the revenue earned from each medicine.

Alongside its oncology partnerships, HUTCHMED depends on China prescription-drug distribution through its Sinopharm joint venture: Sinopharm and its associates accounted for 13% of 2025 revenue.

  • Takeda turns Fruzaqla sales outside mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau into revenue for HUTCHMED by buying its manufactured drug and paying royalties and milestone payments. Watch Takeda’s sales of this treatment for previously treated metastatic colorectal cancer: they feed HUTCHMED’s supply revenue and royalties.

  • Eli Lilly pays HUTCHMED for Elunate supplies, promotion in China and a share of drug sales, so China sales matter more to this tie than Lilly’s wider business. HUTCHMED manufactures and promotes Elunate; those supply, service and royalty payments generated $76.9 million in 2025.

  • AstraZeneca buys HUTCHMED’s Orpathys supplies, co-develops the cancer drug, including combinations with Tagrisso, and pays royalties and milestones. Approvals can therefore bring HUTCHMED cash before sales build: the June 2025 China approval of savolitinib with osimertinib for non-small cell lung cancer triggered an $11 million milestone.

  • Zai Lab and HUTCHMED both sell targeted cancer medicines in Greater China, leaving both exposed to hospital uptake and reimbursement decisions. Watch adoption of Zai Lab’s oncology products, including ZEJULA and AUGTYRO, for a read on the market in which HUTCHMED sells its cancer drugs.

  • BeOne Medicines competes with HUTCHMED for some of the same lymphoma patient groups: both develop and sell targeted cancer medicines.

  • Ascentage Pharma and HUTCHMED both develop small-molecule cancer drugs and sell them in China, where approvals and national reimbursement coverage shape sales. Watch Ascentage’s Olverembatinib sales after all its commercialized indications gained national reimbursement coverage in January 2025 for a view of how coverage translates into uptake.

  • Exelixis competes with HUTCHMED in targeted treatments for previously treated neuroendocrine tumors through cabozantinib versus surufatinib, although the two drugs’ geographic sales footprints differ.
