Company

Company overview

Foghorn Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing potential medicines for cancer. Its Gene Traffic Control platform studies the machinery that controls gene activity—the chromatin regulatory system—to identify targets for new drugs. It has no approved products and has never earned revenue from drug sales.

Its revenue comes entirely from its relationship with Eli Lilly. Lilly has provided upfront funding for joint drug research and development, and Foghorn earns collaboration revenue as that work progresses. Its most advanced candidate, FHD-909, blocks a protein called SMARCA2 and is in a Phase 1 trial led by Lilly, primarily in patients with non-small cell lung cancer. Its other candidates remain preclinical.

Foghorn can influence, but does not control, Lilly’s development of partnered candidates. Bringing a medicine to market depends on demonstrating safety and effectiveness and obtaining regulatory approval. The company also needs additional funding to advance its research and development.

Foghorn’s prospects hinge on Lilly-backed clinical progress validating chromatin-targeted medicines, with CellCentric and C4 Therapeutics adding competition beyond this list.

  • Lilly pays Foghorn for joint drug-development work and leads the Phase 1 trial of FHD-909, Foghorn’s most advanced candidate, tying Foghorn’s revenue and clinical progress to its partner. Watch Lilly’s trial updates in non-small cell lung cancer and the collaboration revenue Foghorn recognizes as work advances.

  • IDEAYA Biosciences and Foghorn develop cancer medicines aimed at genetic vulnerabilities, and Foghorn names IDEAYA’s targeted therapies as competitors for the same indications. IDEAYA’s clinical progress in its MTAP-pathway and other targeted programs is worth watching for changes in the competition Foghorn faces.

  • Prelude Therapeutics and Foghorn both develop precision cancer medicines using small molecules and drugs that remove selected proteins, so clinical validation and drugmakers’ willingness to license these approaches matter to both. Watch whether Incyte exercises its option to buy Prelude’s JAK2 V617F program, a concrete test of partner demand for Prelude’s precision-oncology work.

  • Nurix Therapeutics and Foghorn both develop medicines that make cells remove selected proteins and earn revenue from pharmaceutical partners, exposing both to demand for protein-degradation research. Watch Nurix’s collaboration revenue from Gilead, Sanofi and Pfizer as a readout of partner spending on this approach, rather than sales of approved drugs.

  • Arvinas and Foghorn both develop medicines that remove disease-related proteins, making evidence on these drugs’ efficacy, safety and pharmaceutical partnerships relevant to both. Watch the commercialization partner Arvinas and Pfizer select for vepdegestrant as a sign of interest in bringing a protein-degrader medicine to market.
