Company

Company overview

Companies, government agencies and nonprofits pay Franklin Covey to help leaders and employees improve how they work and carry out important objectives. This enterprise business generates most of its revenue. Its All Access Pass gives clients subscription access to programs such as The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, along with assessments and implementation tools. Clients can use whole programs or combine content for their needs, with consulting and coaching to help put it into practice.

Schools also pay for Leader in Me memberships, which provide online curriculum, leadership lessons and permission to use the company’s content. Coaches and consultants help schools implement the program, which focuses on student performance, school culture and parent and teacher involvement. In markets without its own offices, independent licensees sell Franklin Covey’s offerings and pay it royalties on their sales.

Subscriptions and related materials account for most revenue, so the business depends on winning new subscribers and retaining existing ones through useful content and effective coaching. Clients’ budgets also matter, and school programs depend partly on government funding and charitable support. Its customer base is broad rather than dominated by one large buyer.

Franklin Covey’s results hinge on corporate learning budgets, subscription renewals and school funding, but this list omits key leadership-development and coaching rivals Development Dimensions International and BetterUp.

  • Korn Ferry competes with Franklin Covey for employers’ spending on developing leaders and helping organizations perform better. Watch new business and fee revenue in Korn Ferry’s Talent & Organizational Solutions, which includes consulting and digital offerings, rather than its hiring businesses.

  • Accenture competes with Franklin Covey for enterprise clients paying for advice to improve organizational performance. Its consulting work is the closer comparison; technology services and running operations for clients make Accenture’s overall business much broader than Franklin Covey’s training and performance-improvement offerings.
