Company overview

Mining companies and other industrial customers use Exyn Technologies’ products to map complex spaces where GPS signals are unavailable. Its Nexys device carries ExynAI software that lets drones and ground robots locate themselves, navigate and build three-dimensional maps without an operator steering them. Nexys accounts for most revenue, and enterprise customers provide nearly all sales; government business is currently much smaller.

Exyn sells directly and through independent distributors, which supply a substantial share of sales. These include World Class Mining Services Mexico and C.R. Kennedy & Company, both of which may also sell competing products. Customers generally place separate purchase orders rather than commit to long-term purchases, often paying part before shipment and the balance on delivery. Follow-on support and maintenance bring additional revenue. A small group of customers supplies a substantial share of revenue, so continued orders matter.

Exyn plans to expand software licensing by having equipment manufacturers embed its technology in their own products. That expansion depends on partners adopting and integrating the software, rather than representing an established source of large recurring revenue. The company also needs additional financing to support its operating plans. Drone deployments must comply with aviation rules, including U.S. restrictions on flights beyond the pilot’s visual line of sight, while export controls can require authorization or prevent sales to certain destinations.

Exyn’s results hinge on mining and geospatial customers adopting autonomous mapping, with Emesent and Hexagon/Leica important rivals to watch outside this list.

  • Trimble competes with Exyn for industrial and construction customers buying mapping and surveying technology; Exyn explicitly names it as a rival. Watch Trimble’s software and cloud-services business, which includes 3D modeling and is taking a growing share of its business.

  • Palladyne AI and Exyn both sell software that lets robots operate autonomously in changing environments to industrial and defense customers. Palladyne IQ 2.0 has secured its first paying customer, making further customer adoption worth watching alongside demand for Exyn’s autonomy software.

  • Exyn depends on Hesai Group for technology that scans surroundings for its autonomous mapping systems: Hesai supplies approximately 15% of Exyn’s LiDAR scanning technology sourcing. That makes Hesai’s LiDAR supply more directly relevant to Exyn than its sales of other sensors.

  • Bentley Systems competes with Exyn for construction and infrastructure customers buying surveying and ways to turn physical assets into digital models; Exyn names it as a rival. Watch Bentley’s surveying and infrastructure-modeling software rather than treating its broader engineering-software business as a direct match for Exyn.

  • Caterpillar’s mining and construction equipment sales draw on customer investment budgets that also support Exyn’s autonomous mapping deployments. Watch its mining-equipment sales alongside Exyn’s efforts to sell more Nexys hardware and autonomy subscriptions to global mining customers based in North America.
