Company

Company overview

Energy Services of America Corporation is a contractor serving energy, water, industrial and government customers, mainly in the mid-Atlantic and central United States. Underground infrastructure supplies most of its revenue: customers hire it to build and maintain natural-gas and water pipelines and related facilities. Industrial construction is the next-largest business, installing and maintaining electrical, mechanical and other building systems in factories and power facilities. A smaller business builds and rehabilitates schools, government buildings and small bridges.

The company wins work through competitive bids or negotiation. Gas and water distribution projects are priced by units of work, so revenue depends on how much work is actually required. Electrical, mechanical and general construction work is mainly sold for an agreed lump sum, with some contracts charging for costs and labor time.

Work depends on customers' infrastructure and industrial spending, with pipeline activity also tied to energy prices. Winter weather slows construction. The company relies heavily on bank credit to fund projects, and some customers require guarantees from insurers that contracts will be completed and subcontractors paid. Access to those guarantees affects which projects it can bid for.

Energy Services of America's results depend on project execution and customers' capital budgets, so watch TransCanada Corporation, which supplied 10.4% of fiscal 2024 revenue and less than 10% in fiscal 2025.

  • Primoris Services Corporation competes for the utility and industrial construction work that also pays Energy Services of America: both build and maintain natural-gas utility systems and energy infrastructure. Primoris's natural-gas utility work is the closest part of its business to watch.

  • Quanta Services competes with Energy Services of America for customers paying to build and maintain gas utility, pipeline, electrical and manufacturing infrastructure. Watch Quanta's contract wins and delivery of that work, rather than treating its wider business as a direct match.

  • MasTec competes with Energy Services of America for pipeline, energy and utility customers that pay for infrastructure construction and maintenance. Its Pipeline Infrastructure segment, serving energy companies and utilities, offers the clearest comparison.

  • Comfort Systems USA competes with Energy Services of America for industrial and institutional customers paying to install and maintain electrical, mechanical, heating and cooling, controls and fire-protection systems. Its manufacturing-customer revenue is a useful comparison for Energy Services of America's industrial construction business.

  • MYR Group competes with Energy Services of America for electrical construction and maintenance paid for by commercial, industrial and power customers. Its Commercial and Industrial segment is a closer comparison to Energy Services of America's facility work than its utility transmission-line business.

  • NiSource is a named customer, connecting Energy Services of America's gas-distribution construction revenue to the infrastructure needs of regulated utilities that sell gas and electricity to customers. Watch NiSource's gas-network construction needs for context on this part of Energy Services of America's underground business.

  • American Water's Kentucky and West Virginia utilities are named customers paying Energy Services of America for work in a growing business that builds and maintains water pipelines. American Water sells water and wastewater services; its pipeline investment needs in those two states are the relevant news to watch.

  • American Electric Power is a named customer, linking Energy Services of America's electrical and mechanical construction work to a company paid for electricity sales and delivery. AEP's power-facility construction and maintenance needs matter more to this tie than electricity sales alone.

  • Marathon Petroleum is a named customer of Energy Services of America, which earns money building and maintaining petroleum pipelines and industrial facilities. Marathon sells refined products to retailers and wholesale buyers, but its pipeline and facility work is the closer signal for this contractor.

  • Nucor connects Energy Services of America's manufacturing construction business to steelmaking: Nucor Steel West Virginia is a named customer, and Energy Services of America provides electrical and mechanical work for manufacturing facilities. Watch construction work at that customer rather than Nucor's steel sales alone.

  • Toyota links Energy Services of America's construction revenue to automotive factories through named customer Toyota Motor Manufacturing. Toyota sells vehicles, but factory project awards are the closer signal here: Energy Services of America attributed its fiscal 2025 industrial construction growth primarily to more large automotive and manufacturing projects.
