Comfort Systems USA serves commercial, industrial and institutional customers that need building systems installed or upgraded. Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing and related mechanical work provide most revenue; electrical contracting is the other major business. Most revenue comes from installation in newly built facilities, with renovation and replacement projects adding further work. Maintenance, repairs and monitoring provide a smaller revenue stream through service calls and ongoing agreements.
Customers generally agree to a fixed project price and pay as work reaches milestones or costs are incurred, withholding part of the payment until completion. The company pays for labor and equipment before collecting all customer payments. What it earns on a job depends heavily on managing labor and keeping costs within the contract price; additional work can be paid for through agreed contract changes.
Technology and manufacturing customers together account for most revenue, making their construction spending particularly important. The largest customer supplies a meaningful share of revenue, though its identity can change from year to year. Work also depends on meeting state and local contractor licensing requirements. HVAC work is subject to technician licensing and environmental rules governing certain refrigerants.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
EMCOR competes with Comfort Systems for U.S. commercial and industrial customers paying to install and maintain mechanical and electrical systems. Its U.S. mechanical and electrical construction results are the closest comparison, rather than its broader facilities services.
Legence competes with Comfort Systems to install and maintain heating, cooling, electrical and plumbing systems, with particularly similar exposure to technology facilities. Watch its data-center and technology revenue: those clients supplied 42.7% of its 2025 revenue, while technology customers supplied 45.0% of Comfort Systems’ revenue.
IES Holdings overlaps Comfort Systems in installing electrical and mechanical systems for technology, commercial and industrial customers. Its Communications business, serving technology, social-networking and e-commerce clients, is a more relevant comparison than its residential business.
Everus Construction Group competes with Comfort Systems for commercial, industrial and institutional construction and maintenance work, serving general contractors and end customers. Focus on its electrical and mechanical business, which generated about 77% of 2025 contract revenue, rather than its utility transmission and distribution work.
Sterling Infrastructure overlaps Comfort Systems by providing essential electrical and mechanical services to data centers and manufacturers. Its E-Infrastructure results offer the relevant comparison for those customers, not its highway or concrete construction businesses.
Vertiv and Comfort Systems both benefit from data-center spending on power and cooling: Vertiv sells the equipment, while Comfort Systems installs mechanical and electrical systems in technology facilities. Vertiv’s air- and liquid-cooling products and power-management equipment are the relevant demand signals.
Comfort Systems uses Eaton’s switchgear in its installation work, and both serve data-center and industrial power-distribution investment. Watch Eaton’s switchgear delivery news: Comfort Systems says electrical switchgear is among the equipment with lead times commonly exceeding six months during peak demand.
Johnson Controls supplies Comfort Systems with building automation and YORK heating and cooling equipment, but also competes for commercial HVAC installation and service customers. Its maintenance, retrofit and replacement business shows the competitive pressure around existing buildings.
Trane supplies chillers and rooftop heating and cooling units that Comfort Systems installs, while also competing for commercial HVAC maintenance customers. Its push to expand recurring service revenue is worth watching alongside Comfort Systems’ work in existing buildings.
MYR Group overlaps Comfort Systems in electrical installation, maintenance and repair for commercial and industrial customers. Compare its Commercial and Industrial business with Comfort Systems’ electrical segment, which supplied 26.7% of 2025 revenue, rather than MYR’s utility transmission and distribution business.
Modine and Comfort Systems share exposure to spending on data-center cooling and commercial heating and cooling: Modine sells systems, while Comfort Systems installs and replaces them in technology and other commercial facilities. Modine’s separate Data Centers and Commercial HVAC segments, introduced for fiscal 2027, are the businesses to watch.
nVent and Comfort Systems share exposure to data-center cooling and electrical spending: nVent sells cooling and power-distribution systems, while Comfort Systems installs mechanical and electrical systems in technology facilities. Watch nVent’s Systems Protection business, which sells to large cloud operators, equipment makers and contractors, among other customers.
Comfort Systems buys Carrier’s chillers and rooftop heating and cooling units to install in customer buildings. Watch delivery times for that equipment: Comfort Systems says manufactured commercial HVAC equipment commonly has lead times exceeding six months during peak demand.
Quanta Services and Comfort Systems serve different parts of investment in large electricity users and manufacturing facilities: Quanta builds power infrastructure, while Comfort Systems installs the facilities’ mechanical and electrical systems. Quanta’s contracts for large load centers and manufacturers are the work to watch, rather than its broader utility and pipeline business.
Comfort Systems USA, Inc. earningsThis company
Comfort Systems USA's report will show whether project revenue is growing while project margins and cash collection hold up.
Read project revenue alongside project margins and operating cash flow. Revenue growth with steady margins and cash flow keeping pace suggests the work is progressing without materially eroding profit or tying up more cash in labor, equipment and receivables. If revenue grows but margins weaken and cash flow lags, cost overruns or slower collections may be weighing on the work. The question is whether growth is turning into profit and cash the company can realize.
Modine Manufacturing Co earningsMOD
Modine's Data Centers and Commercial HVAC businesses show demand for cooling equipment that Comfort Systems USA installs in customer facilities.
Read Modine's Data Centers and Commercial HVAC results separately. Strength in Data Centers would support demand for cooling equipment used in those facilities; strength in Commercial HVAC would point to firmer demand across a wider range of commercial buildings. Weakness in both could signal delayed customer investment, a less supportive equipment-demand backdrop for Comfort Systems USA's technology-facility and other commercial projects.
EMCOR Group, Inc. earningsEME
EMCOR's U.S. mechanical and electrical construction competes with Comfort Systems USA for similar customers, so its results show how firm demand and competition are in that work.
Focus on EMCOR's U.S. mechanical and electrical construction results, not its broader facilities services. Strength in those businesses would indicate that customers are still spending on installation and retrofit work; weakness could reflect more cautious customers or tougher bidding. Compare that picture with Comfort Systems USA's own project revenue and margins to see whether the same conditions are showing up in its market.
Carrier Global Corporation earningsCARR
Carrier's commercial HVAC deliveries affect whether Comfort Systems USA can get the chillers and rooftop units it needs for installations on time.
Watch Carrier's comments on commercial HVAC production and deliveries. Better output and shipments would make it more likely that Comfort Systems USA receives the chillers and rooftop units its projects need on time, reducing the chance that equipment holds up work. Continued constraints could delay installation and keep labor and equipment costs tied up in projects longer. The question is whether equipment supply can keep pace with construction.
Eaton Corporation, plc earningsETN
Eaton's switchgear supply affects whether Comfort Systems USA can install and complete electrical projects on schedule.
Watch Eaton's comments on switchgear production, orders and deliveries. Better supply would reduce the risk that Comfort Systems USA's electrical projects wait for equipment; persistent delays could slow installation and keep project costs tied up in cash for longer. The issue is whether electrical equipment can reach jobsites in time, not simply whether data-center or industrial customers want to spend.
