Energy Focus makes lighting that replaces older lamps in ships and commercial buildings. Military maritime products bring in most of its revenue: the U.S. Navy and allied navies use products such as Intellitube and Invisitube replacement LED tubes and military-grade fixtures. Sales reach these customers both directly and through intermediaries, including a major U.S. Navy distributor.
Commercial customers include businesses, contractors and energy service companies buying lighting upgrades. Energy Focus sells them products such as RedCap emergency-backup LED tubes through its sales team, agents and distributors. It also sells systems that keep power running during outages, known as uninterruptible power supplies, and other power-management products. These have become a meaningful revenue source, including a project delivered to a customer in Taiwan; further orders depend on that customer's needs and timing.
Revenue depends heavily on a few buyers, including the Navy distributor and two commercial customers, generally without contracts guaranteeing minimum purchases. Military orders depend on government budgets and procurement timing, and government sales require compliance with procurement rules and qualification requirements. Production also relies on related-party Sander Electronics suppliers, with few readily available replacements. Energy Focus depends on external financing to sustain operations.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Energy Focus’s results depend heavily on U.S. Navy procurement timing and concentrated customer orders, while Signify—absent from this list—is a rival to watch in commercial lighting.
Orion Energy Systems, Inc. competes with Energy Focus for LED lighting upgrade projects paid for by enterprises, contractors and energy service companies. Watch Orion’s multi-location lighting retrofits: it pairs efficient fixtures with design, project management and installation, competing on more than the lights alone.
Acuity Inc. competes for commercial-building customers’ lighting budgets with luminaires and controls that rival Energy Focus’s LED retrofit products and controls. Watch its Acuity Brands Lighting offering, which combines fixtures with electronics and connected controls—the product combination facing Energy Focus’s commercial lighting business.
LSI Industries Inc competes with Energy Focus to sell lighting for commercial facilities, including retail locations. Watch LSI’s lighting sales rather than its total revenue: lighting accounted for 38% of fiscal 2026 net sales, while its separate display-solutions business accounted for 62%.

Orion Energy Systems, Inc.'s report will show whether enterprises, contractors and energy service companies are still funding multi-location lighting retrofits, projects Energy Focus, Inc. also pursues.
Look at Orion's lighting retrofit activity, especially multi-location projects, and whether it pairs fixtures with design, project management and installation. More activity would show that enterprise lighting budgets the two companies pursue are still moving, supporting the project market Energy Focus faces. Less activity could mean customers are delaying upgrades, or that Orion is winning more work with its bundled services; this report alone may not distinguish the two. The takeaway is whether the shared project market is active, not whether Orion's work is Energy Focus's sales.

Energy Focus, Inc.'s report will show whether delayed military procurement is still holding back military-product sales and whether commercial lighting and power-management sales can fill the gap.
Read military-product and commercial-product sales alongside gross margin and operating cash flow. A recovery in military sales, steady commercial sales, firmer margins and less cash used in operations would point to a more resilient revenue base and easing operating pressure. If military sales remain weak and commercial sales do not fill the gap, or margins and cash flow worsen, project timing and customer concentration still leave the business under strain. The conclusion is whether both product lines can support operations, rather than a few projects carrying them.
