Company overview

Damora Therapeutics concentrates most of its research effort and financial resources on DMR-001, an antibody candidate for blood disorders including essential thrombocythemia and myelofibrosis. It targets a mutated protein called calreticulin, or mutCALR. The company is engineering the antibody to bind its target more effectively and remain in circulation longer, but these intended benefits have not been demonstrated in humans. Its programs remain preclinical, with no clinical trials begun and no products approved for sale.

Paragon Therapeutics supplies much of Damora’s discovery capability and the rights needed to develop its candidates. Damora has exercised its option for DMR-001’s exclusive worldwide development and commercialization rights, but is still negotiating the license. Its options for DMR-002 and DMR-003 remain unexercised.

Damora has generated no revenue and finances its work mainly by raising capital from investors. Future drug-sales revenue would require successful development and regulatory approval, followed by adoption by clinicians and coverage and reimbursement from government and private payors. Continuing development also depends on additional funding and maintaining access to Paragon’s research and intellectual-property rights.

Damora’s prospects hinge on proving its mutCALR therapies in clinical trials and securing antibody licenses from Paragon Therapeutics, its key research and intellectual-property partner.

  • Incyte sets a direct benchmark for Damora: it develops competing mutCALR antibodies and sells ruxolitinib for myelofibrosis. Watch INCA033989 results against Damora’s claim that DMR-001 could offer lower doses and less frequent injections under the skin than INCA033989’s intravenous infusion every two weeks.

  • Prelude Therapeutics Incorporated competes for the same disease opportunity as Damora: its mCALR CDK9d DAC and Damora’s antibodies target mutCALR-driven myeloproliferative neoplasms. Progress on that program, rather than Prelude’s separate JAK2 program, is the news to watch for Damora’s competitive position.

  • Johnson & Johnson threatens Damora’s future treatment opportunity through Janssen’s JNJ-88549968, which targets the same mutCALR-driven myeloproliferative neoplasms. For this prescription-medicine seller, watch that candidate’s progress: a competing treatment that reaches patients sooner or proves safer, more effective or more convenient could narrow Damora’s opportunity.

  • Geron Corp competes with Damora through imetelstat’s development in myeloproliferative neoplasms, not through its current sales for myelodysplastic syndromes. Watch imetelstat’s progress in the competing indication rather than treating sales of Geron’s sole product, RYTELO, as demand for the diseases Damora targets.

  • Novartis competes with Damora’s planned myelofibrosis treatments both by selling ruxolitinib as JAKAVI outside the United States and by developing pelabresib. Watch pelabresib’s progress for changes in the treatment choices Damora would face.
