Company

Company overview

DoubleDown Interactive’s main game, DoubleDown Casino, lets players play virtual slots on mobile devices and the web. Players receive free chips periodically and can buy more when they want to keep playing. These chips cannot be redeemed for money or transferred between players or games. DoubleDown Casino supplies most of the company’s revenue, and the United States is its largest market.

Most social casino purchases pass through Apple, Facebook, Google and Amazon payment systems, which deduct fees before sending the proceeds to DoubleDown. Players also buy through company-owned storefronts. Revenue depends on keeping players engaged enough to buy chips repeatedly and persuading more free players to pay.

The games combine original content with titles licensed from IGT and parent company DoubleU Games, for which DoubleDown pays royalties. Access to that content matters: IGT has sought to terminate its U.S. licenses, which DoubleDown disputes; the issue remained unresolved at the report date. DoubleDown also faces U.S. lawsuits alleging its social casino games constitute illegal gambling. It denies those allegations, but legal action could restrict distribution or require game changes.

A smaller business, SuprNation, operates licensed real-money online casinos in selected European markets. It earns from wagers after expected player winnings and promotional bonuses. Unlike the virtual-chip games, this business requires gambling licenses and may have to stop offering services where those licenses are lost or not renewed.

DoubleDown’s results hinge chiefly on keeping paying social casino players and securing licensed game content from its parent DoubleU Games and IGT, whose attempted license termination makes IGT one to watch.

  • Playtika’s Slotomania and other social casino games compete with DoubleDown for players who spend on virtual chips and other in-game purchases. Watch how Playtika keeps those players engaged and paying through new content and loyalty rewards, especially in Slotomania.

  • Take-Two Interactive competes with DoubleDown for social casino players through its mobile gaming business, but also sells games, virtual items and live services across console and PC. Its mobile social casino business is the relevant comparison for DoubleDown, rather than results spanning all three platforms.

  • Gamehaus publishes social casino games that compete with DoubleDown’s virtual-chip games for player spending, alongside other types of free-to-download mobile games. It shares game income or profits with developer partners, so watch which social casino games it brings to market and how effectively it markets them to players.

  • Flutter Entertainment’s European online casino brands compete with DoubleDown’s SuprNation for players wagering real money, rather than buying social casino chips. Watch its European online casino business: SuprNation generated $61 million, about 17% of DoubleDown’s revenue, in the year ended December 31, 2025.
