C3is Inc. serves commodity producers and traders, industrial users, oil producers and refineries that need cargo moved by sea. Its small fleet includes drybulk carriers, the crude oil tanker Afrapearl II and the product tanker Clean Fury. It relies on Brave Maritime to arrange charters and supervise vessel operations and technical management.
Most revenue comes from voyage charters: customers pay to move cargo between agreed ports, and C3is pays fuel, port and vessel operating costs. The other main source is time charters, under which customers pay a fixed daily rate for an agreed period and cover most voyage expenses, while C3is still pays vessel operating costs. Its drybulk ships have been employed on short-duration time charters, while Afrapearl II and Clean Fury have operated in the spot market, where rates change with market conditions.
A small group of charterers supplies a significant share of revenue. Earnings depend on those customers paying, ships remaining employed, and charter rates shaped by commodity and oil shipments relative to available vessel capacity. Idle ships earn no charter revenue but still incur costs. Environmental and safety rules constrain vessel operations, and trades involving sanctioned countries must be permitted under applicable sanctions regimes.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Imperial Petroleum Inc. and C3is compete for commodity and petroleum customers hiring handysize bulk carriers and medium-range (MR) product tankers, so both face the same charter-rate swings. Imperial's vessel utilization shows how much of its fleet is finding work in these markets.
Pyxis Tankers Inc. and C3is compete for customers paying to move petroleum products in medium-range (MR) tankers, while both also earn money carrying drybulk commodities. Watch Pyxis's product-tanker charter income separately from its bulk-shipping income: Pyxis describes drybulk as historically relatively countercyclical to product tankers.
Performance Shipping Inc. competes with C3is for customers hiring Aframax tankers to transport crude oil. Its spot and short-term charter business is the closer guide to C3is's Afrapearl II, which was operating in the spot market as of March 31, 2026, than its longer-term charter business.
Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd. and C3is compete for oil companies and refiners paying for tanker transportation in the global charter market. Watch the rates Tsakos secures from these customers for a read on the oil-shipping demand and vessel supply that also shape C3is's tanker earnings.
TOP Ships Inc. and C3is compete for petroleum customers hiring crude-oil tankers and medium-range (MR) product tankers. Watch the rates TOP Ships agrees on new charters, since it negotiates them at prevailing market conditions rather than treating existing charter revenue as a direct guide to C3is.
Genco Shipping & Trading competes for grain and minor-bulk cargo customers also served by C3is's smaller drybulk ships, using its larger Supramax and Ultramax vessels. Its business carrying grain, steel products and fertilizer is more relevant to C3is than its larger ships' iron-ore business.
Star Bulk Carriers Corp. competes with C3is for commodity charterers paying to carry minor-bulk cargoes, through its Supramax and Ultramax operations. Watch its charter business carrying grain, fertilizer and steel products rather than treating results across its entire drybulk fleet as a match for C3is.
Okeanis Eco Tankers Corp. shares C3is's exposure to spot crude-oil freight rates, although its crude tankers are larger than C3is's Aframax. Customers mostly pay Okeanis to carry a specific cargo on a specific voyage, so its voyage-charter revenue is worth watching alongside C3is's spot-employed Afrapearl II.
EIA Crude Oil Stocks Change (Oct/16)
C3is’s crude-oil and product tanker business is affected when US oil and fuel stocks signal changes in cargo flows and tanker employment, while oil-price moves can change the bunker fuel costs it pays on spot charters.
Read larger stocks as a signal of looser supply: lower oil and fuel prices may ease spot-charter bunker costs, but weaker cargo flows could reduce tanker employment and revenue. Smaller stocks may signal tighter supply, with the opposite price and cargo-flow effects.
GENCO SHIPPING & TRADING LTD earningsGNK
Genco Shipping & Trading’s grain, steel and fertilizer business will show whether demand is firm for cargoes that compete for space on C3is’s smaller drybulk ships.
Focus on Genco’s grain, steel and fertilizer business, not its entire fleet. Stronger activity in those cargoes suggests shippers are competing for the kind of capacity C3is’s smaller drybulk ships provide; weaker activity suggests less support for demand for those ships.
Performance Shipping Inc. earningsPSHG
Performance Shipping’s spot and short-term charters will show whether the crude-oil freight market is also supporting C3is’s spot-employed Afrapearl II.
Look at rates secured and income from Performance Shipping’s spot and short-term charters, separately from longer-term charters. Stronger rates and income suggest a more favorable balance between crude cargoes and available tankers, which could support better spot earnings for C3is’s Afrapearl II; weaker results point to less market support for that vessel.
Pyxis Tankers Inc. earningsPXS
Pyxis Tankers’ product-tanker charter income will show whether demand supports the medium-range tanker market C3is is entering.
Read Pyxis’s product-tanker charter business on its own, not together with its drybulk income. Stronger product-tanker income suggests demand for moving petroleum products is supporting the medium-range tanker market, improving the prospects for employment for C3is’s new MR tankers; weaker income points to a less favorable market for those vessels.
