BOK Financial Corp serves businesses and individuals in Oklahoma and nearby states, with commercial banking a major part of its business. Customers use it to borrow, hold deposits and manage cash. Deposits provide most of its funding, which it uses to make loans and hold interest-paying securities. Interest received, less interest paid on deposits and borrowings, supplies most of its revenue.
Fees provide another substantial income stream. Wealth clients pay it to manage or hold their assets, with charges largely tied to asset values. It also earns from trading U.S. government-agency mortgage-backed securities—securities backed by home loans—and related derivatives for mortgage-market customers. Its mortgage business makes and sells home loans and collects fees for servicing loans for others; servicing supplies most of that business’s revenue.
The business depends on retaining deposits, borrowers repaying and the gap between lending and funding rates. Lending is concentrated in Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado, and energy-industry relationships tie it to oil-and-gas-producing economies. Banking laws restrict acquisitions and investments, sometimes requiring advance approval. At the parent-company level, much of its cash flow comes from dividends paid by its bank, BOKF, NA; banking rules and capital requirements limit those payments.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Bancfirst Corp competes with BOK Financial for Oklahoma business loans, household deposits, cash-management services and trust clients. Its locally set loan and deposit pricing is worth watching for pressure on BOK Financial’s relationships with small and medium-sized businesses.
UMB Financial Corp competes with BOK Financial for customers’ deposits and loans in Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. Its acquisition of Heartland Financial in January 2025 added $14.3 billion of deposits, making its enlarged deposit base worth watching in those shared markets.
Cullen/Frost Bankers competes with BOK Financial for Texas businesses’ banking and cash-management needs, as well as clients who pay for wealth-management services.
Simmons First National Corp competes with BOK Financial for business loans, deposits, cash-management services and trust clients in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Texas. Watch its loan and deposit rates and trust-service pricing: Simmons identifies these as ways it competes for customers.
National Bank Holdings competes with BOK Financial for business and household loans and deposits in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Texas and New Mexico. Its Community Banks of Colorado, Bank Midwest and Hillcrest Bank operations are the places to watch for competition across those markets.
Regions Financial competes with BOK Financial in Texas for business and household banking, home loans and wealth-management clients. Its Texas business is the relevant comparison; company-wide results also cover the South and Midwest.
Hancock Whitney Corporation competes with BOK Financial for Texas business banking, services that help companies manage their cash, and wealth-management clients.

U.S. Bancorp competes with BOK Financial for business banking, trust and home-loan clients, and fees from processing merchants’ card payments and ATM transactions. Its payment-processing business is worth watching alongside BOK Financial’s TransFund network, which earned $97.7 million from member transaction processing in 2025.
Bank of America competes with BOK Financial for consumers, middle-market businesses and wealth clients across BOK Financial’s major metropolitan markets. Its banking services for middle-market businesses are the closest comparison to BOK Financial’s relationship-based commercial lending.

EIA Crude Oil Stocks Change (Oct/16)
US crude and gasoline stocks show whether oil and fuel supply is tightening or building, which can move prices and affect the ability of BOK Financial’s energy borrowers to repay loans and support collateral values.
A rise in stocks points to looser supply that may weaken oil prices and pressure energy borrowers’ repayments and collateral; a decline points to tighter supply that may support prices and ease those risks for BOK Financial’s energy loan portfolio.
NATIONAL BANK HOLDINGS CORP. earningsNBHC
National Bank Holdings’ report will show how loan and deposit competition in markets it shares with BOK Financial is developing.
Compare National Bank Holdings’ loan growth, deposit growth and deposit costs. Loan growth with contained deposit costs would suggest demand is holding up across shared markets without banks having to raise deposit prices much. Deposit growth that comes with higher costs would point to tougher competition for funding, which can narrow BOK Financial’s net interest margin—the gap between interest income and interest expense.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Fed rate decisions shape what BOK Financial earns on loans and securities versus what it pays on deposits and borrowings, affecting net interest income and mortgage revenue.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
If the Fed sets rates higher than expected, income on loans and securities that reprice may rise, but deposit and borrowing costs can rise too; higher mortgage rates may also curb mortgage production and related revenue.
If it comes in below expectations
If the Fed sets rates lower than expected, BOK Financial may pay less on deposits and borrowings, but income on repricing assets may also fall; lower mortgage rates generally support mortgage production and revenue.
Cullen/Frost Bankers Inc. earningsCFR
Cullen/Frost’s report will show whether business-banking and cash-management demand is holding up in the Texas market where it competes with BOK Financial.
Look at Cullen/Frost’s business-banking activity alongside fee revenue, which reflects customer use of services such as cash management and wealth management. Growth in both would suggest demand for these services is holding up in the Texas market BOK Financial also serves; weakness in both would point to softer business activity or demand for paid services. Company-wide results cannot isolate Texas, so they offer a signal, not a direct measure of that market.
