bioAffinity Technologies owns PPLS, a laboratory that performs clinical and anatomic pathology testing. Most revenue comes from patient testing services other than its lung cancer test, CyPath Lung; tissue-processing services also contribute. PPLS bills Medicare, insurers and patients, so collecting payment depends on coverage and reimbursement, not just completing tests.
CyPath Lung helps physicians assess patients at high risk for lung cancer, particularly after scans reveal lung nodules. Patients collect sputum at home and send it to PPLS. The laboratory measures cells in the sample using flow cytometry, then applies proprietary machine-learning software to produce a physician report. CyPath Lung currently accounts for a smaller share of revenue, and PPLS is its only commercial testing laboratory.
The test is sold as a laboratory-developed test, rather than an FDA-approved diagnostic. PPLS must maintain CAP accreditation, CLIA certification and required state licenses or permits to keep testing and expand availability. The company also depends on additional outside funding to support operations and commercialization.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
bioAffinity’s results hinge on its pathology laboratory and wider adoption of CyPath Lung, with LungLife AI’s competing LungLB worth watching outside this list.
Biodesix, Inc. competes for physicians’ lung-nodule assessments with its Nodify blood tests, while bioAffinity’s CyPath Lung uses sputum. Watch Biodesix’s revenue from lung diagnostic tests provided to healthcare providers, rather than its development services for research customers; bioAffinity has not tested CyPath Lung directly against competing products.
Veracyte, Inc.’s Percepta nasal swab competes with bioAffinity’s CyPath Lung sputum test in assessing lung cancer. Watch Percepta news rather than Veracyte’s overall revenue, which comes mainly from selling prostate and thyroid tests, Decipher Prostate and Afirma.
bioAffinity depends on ICU Medical’s Acapella Choice Blue device to help patients cough up sputum for CyPath Lung; ICU Medical sells medical products to hospitals and other care providers. Watch restrictions on supplying the device for sample collection: it is cleared to help move lung secretions, not to collect specimens, and a distribution disruption could impair collection of adequate samples.
Biodesix, Inc. earningsBDSX
Biodesix's lung diagnostic test revenue will show whether providers are buying tests to assess lung nodules, a market where CyPath Lung also competes.
Focus on Biodesix's revenue from lung diagnostic tests provided to healthcare providers, not its research development services. Growth would show that demand and use of lung-nodule tests are expanding, giving bioAffinity an opportunity to win providers for CyPath Lung—but it would not show that CyPath Lung is beating Biodesix. Weakening revenue would suggest the market may be harder to build, leaving bioAffinity to prove that providers will adopt its sputum test.
ICU Medical Inc earningsICUI
ICU Medical's report may show whether supply or distribution of the Acapella Choice Blue device is disrupted, which could affect bioAffinity's collection of sputum samples for CyPath Lung.
Look for any mention of changes in Acapella Choice Blue supply, distribution, or availability; if ICU Medical does not discuss the device, its overall results cannot establish whether supply is secure. Steady availability would leave patients with the device that helps them produce sputum samples for PPLS. A supply or distribution disruption could make adequate samples harder to obtain and interrupt the CyPath Lung testing path.
bioAffinity Technologies, Inc. earningsThis company
bioAffinity Technologies' report will show whether CyPath Lung sales are starting to replace revenue lost as the company scaled back pathology services, and whether it has the cash to support the test.
Read CyPath Lung test volume, if reported, and test revenue alongside total revenue; then check cash used in operations against cash on hand and any financing. Rising test revenue with steadier total revenue, and slowing cash use or new financing, would show the diagnostic is beginning to replace lost business and ease the funding pressure. If test revenue does not support total revenue and cash keeps flowing out without new funding, the shift is not yet filling the gap and operations remain reliant on outside capital.
