Company

Company overview

ICU Medical supplies the pumps, software and disposable products healthcare providers use to deliver fluids and medicines and access patients’ blood vessels. Consumables such as IV sets, connectors and catheters are its largest revenue source, followed by infusion systems. Hospitals and distributors buy most of its products; it also serves outpatient and home-care providers through direct sales and independent distributors worldwide.

The company also sells respiratory, anesthesia, monitoring and temperature-management products. It sells and distributes IV solutions on behalf of a joint venture controlled by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory America, while retaining a minority ownership interest in that venture.

One distributor supplies a substantial share of sales. Hospital purchasing also depends partly on contracts with large healthcare providers and group purchasing organizations, which negotiate purchases for member hospitals. Insurers and government programs do not reimburse ICU Medical’s products separately, so what they pay providers for care influences product demand and the prices customers will accept.

Medical-device rules restrict which products and uses the company may market. ICU Medical has submitted new versions of its MedFusion and CADD infusion pumps for FDA clearance to address a warning letter concerning modifications to existing devices; unresolved concerns could lead to sales restrictions or recalls.

ICU Medical’s results hinge on hospital infusion demand and competition from B. Braun, while its IV-solutions business also depends on its joint venture with Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory America.

  • BD competes with ICU Medical for hospitals’ and other healthcare providers’ purchases of infusion pumps and disposable infusion supplies. Watch BD’s pump safety and reliability news: ICU says its pump offering can also help sell more higher-margin infusion consumables.

  • Baxter competes with ICU Medical for hospital spending on infusion systems, IV administration sets and IV solutions. Baxter’s news on these products matters more to this rivalry than results from its other healthcare businesses.

  • Teleflex competes with ICU Medical to sell single-use medical supplies to hospitals and other healthcare providers, putting it against a business that generated 50% of ICU’s revenue in 2025. Watch Teleflex’s new disposable devices and their cost-effectiveness, both areas in which these suppliers compete.

  • AngioDynamics, Inc. competes with ICU Medical for hospital purchases of devices that give clinicians access to blood vessels, including catheters and ports. Its catheter and port launches are the news to watch for ICU’s vascular-access consumables, rather than its broader cancer-treatment portfolio.

  • Merit Medical competes with ICU Medical for hospitals’ and clinicians’ purchases of vascular-access devices and supplies used in procedures. Watch Merit’s new vascular-access products and procedural kits, where its offering overlaps ICU’s consumables business.

  • InfuSystem Holdings, Inc. is a buyer of ICU Medical’s ambulatory pumps for outpatient oncology; ICU supplied approximately 60% of the pumps it purchased in 2025. InfuSystem provides pumps and disposable supplies to oncology offices and outpatient chemotherapy clinics, billing payers, facilities of Medicare patients and patients, so its pump purchases are a concrete signal of customer demand for ICU.

  • Solventum competes with ICU Medical for hospital medical-supply purchases, including products that manage patient temperature and overlap ICU’s Vital Care range. Watch Solventum’s temperature-management products rather than its dental or healthcare-software results when assessing this competition.
