Most of Assurant’s revenue comes from Global Lifestyle, which helps mobile carriers, retailers and vehicle dealers offer protection to their customers. Assurant covers specified losses or repair costs for phones, electronics, appliances and vehicles, collects premiums, and handles claims. Business clients also pay fees for running protection programs and related services. In mobile, those services extend from technical support and repairs to trade-ins, refurbishment and resale of used devices.
Its smaller Global Housing business mainly insures homes, including properties whose owners have let their insurance lapse. Assurant tracks insurance coverage for mortgage lenders and servicers; if it cannot verify coverage, the servicer buys a policy to protect the property. Global Housing also sells renters insurance, primarily through property managers and other partners.
Both businesses receive a substantial share of revenue from a few clients. Mobile carriers and cable operators are particularly important to Global Lifestyle, so retaining these distribution relationships matters to the flow of premiums and service fees.
Earnings depend on pricing coverage to meet claims and service costs, as well as investment income from a portfolio held mainly in bonds and other fixed-maturity securities. Insurance regulators review rates and can require reductions, limiting Assurant’s pricing freedom.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Allstate competes with Assurant for consumers buying protection plans, vehicle protection through dealers, and homeowners and renters insurance. Watch Allstate’s Protection Plans and Dealer Services businesses for competition in the products Assurant sells through its partners.
CNA Financial Corporation’s warranty operations compete with Assurant to sell customers coverage for vehicle repair costs—vehicle service contracts—and related protection products through dealers.
Old Republic International Corporation’s automotive warranty business competes with Assurant for customers buying coverage for mechanical-breakdown repairs through automotive distribution partners, sold as vehicle service contracts.
Travelers and Assurant both face residential property losses and changing home insurance prices: Travelers sells homeowners coverage, while Assurant also covers homes when mortgage servicers arrange insurance for owners who lack it. Watch Travelers’ homeowners pricing and claims costs for context on Assurant’s housing business, where weather and water claims affect results.
Old Republic International Corporation earningsORI
Old Republic International’s automotive warranty business sells vehicle service contracts through auto partners and competes with Assurant for the same customers, so its activity and claims show the market’s demand and pressure.
Look at Old Republic International’s automotive warranty sales or income alongside vehicle-repair claims costs. Strong sales with contained claims would indicate steady demand for vehicle service contracts through auto partners and room for sustainable pricing; weaker sales or rising claims would signal pressure on demand or underwriting margins, making Assurant’s dealer-distributed vehicle protection business face tougher competition or thinner economics.
Assurant, Inc. earningsThis company
Assurant earns from mobile-device protection and housing insurance, and this report will show whether growth in those businesses is reaching segment earnings.
Read segment Adjusted EBITDA—the company’s measure of operating performance—alongside premiums, fees and other income, and claims experience in Global Lifestyle and Global Housing. If income and EBITDA rise together, mobile protection and housing growth are still producing earnings after claims and service costs; if income grows but EBITDA stalls or falls, or housing claims worsen, costs are consuming that growth. The conclusion is whether both of Assurant’s main earnings engines are converting growth into profit.
