Company

Company overview

Utah Medical Products makes devices used in women’s healthcare, childbirth and neonatal intensive care. Gynecology, electrosurgery and urology products together generate most of its revenue. A major product is the Filshie Clip System, which closes the fallopian tubes for permanent female contraception. It also makes blood-pressure monitoring devices, including Deltran kits, and other specialty devices for hospitals and outpatient practices.

Healthcare facilities pay the company directly in the United States and selected overseas markets; distributors buy its devices for resale elsewhere. Other companies also pay it to manufacture components and finished devices for their own product lines. Its indirect overseas sales depend heavily on a small group of distributors, including a major distributor of Deltran kits in China.

Sales depend on clinicians choosing its devices and hospital purchasing policies allowing access to them. Long-term supply contracts and restrictions on clinicians’ role in purchasing can make adoption harder. Regulatory approval also limits where products can be supplied: approval for Irish-made Filshie clips remains pending in the European Union, where Femcare has retained inventory from its former UK manufacturer to serve demand.

Utah Medical Products’ results hinge on demand for specialty women’s-health devices, including Filshie clips, and overseas distributor orders, after its major relationship supplying devices to PendoTECH ended in 2025.

  • ICU Medical competes for hospitals’ monitoring purchases with Utah Medical Products: its products that monitor blood circulation overlap with UTMD’s disposable blood-pressure sensors and monitoring kits. Watch ICU Medical’s hemodynamic-monitoring products, rather than its broader infusion business, for competition facing UTMD’s blood-pressure monitoring revenue.

  • Merit Medical Systems competes with Utah Medical Products for hospital and medical-device manufacturer business in pressure-sensing components and procedural products; both also supply parts and finished devices for other manufacturers’ product lines. Merit’s sales of those parts and devices—its OEM business—are the line to watch alongside UTMD’s own manufacturing sales to other companies.
