Company overview

TransAct Technologies supplies printers that slot-machine manufacturers build into their machines, selling mainly to those manufacturers and through distributors. Light & Wonder Gaming is its largest customer and primarily buys casino and gaming printers. Many products used in gaming platforms need certification and approval in each jurisdiction where they operate. The company also sells checkout printers mainly through distributors and resellers.

For food-service operators, BOHA! combines terminals or workstations with software to automate back-of-house tasks such as labeling, timers and temperature monitoring. TransAct sells these products directly to operators, who can choose applications separately. Hardware purchases lead to ongoing spending on labels, software subscriptions, service and support; subscriptions are typically billed annually for each application. This recurring business depends on customers choosing to renew. Casinos can also buy EPICENTRAL promotional software, largely through subscriptions, directly or through software partners.

TransAct depends on a contract manufacturer in Thailand for almost all printer and terminal production, without a supply agreement. It also buys substantially all BOHA! labels from one domestic supplier. Although it has acquired a perpetual license to BOHA! source code, it remains highly dependent on the prior developer for parts of the software's operation during the transition, as well as on outside hosting providers.

TransAct also depends on casino-printer demand from its largest customer, Light & Wonder, which accounted for 9% of 2025 sales, while competing with JCM Global for casino-printer business.

  • TransAct relies on Avery Dennison for the BOHA! software source-code license and transition services, even as this seller of labeling materials and software competes for food-service customers. Watch whether Avery Dennison's transition services keep BOHA! available to customers as TransAct takes over hosting management, support and maintenance.

  • Digi International competes with TransAct for food-service customers through Jolt's back-of-house tools, which rival BOHA! hardware and software. For TransAct holders, Jolt developments matter more directly than Digi's broader business selling connected-device equipment and services to manufacturers, businesses and governments.

  • McDonald's restaurant-system equipment purchases matter to TransAct because its Ithaca 9000 printers, used for checkout and kiosk receipts or labels, serve McDonald's primarily and are sold mainly through distributors and resellers. McDonald's earns money from diners at its own restaurants and fees from franchisees; watch printer deployment and replacement across that system rather than treating restaurant sales as printer orders.
