Avery Dennison supplies materials that businesses use to label packaging, display graphics and bond products. Its Materials Group brings in most of its revenue, selling adhesive label materials under names including Fasson and JAC, alongside graphics materials and performance tapes. A substantial share of its label materials goes into food, beverage, and home and personal care packaging.
Its smaller Solutions Group sells apparel brands, retailers and other businesses the tags, labels and related services they use to identify and present merchandise. It also supplies tags that let physical items be identified by radio signals—a technology called RFID—and software that connects those items with digital information. Vestcom supplies shelf-edge pricing, productivity and media solutions for retailers.
Sales are spread across customers rather than dominated by one buyer, and most revenue comes from outside the United States. The business depends on customers’ packaging and labeling needs and on offsetting higher paper, plastic and chemical costs through selling prices or changes to product design. International sales are subject to export controls and sanctions; some products require export licenses or applicable exceptions.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Avery Dennison depends chiefly on label-material demand and increasingly on RFID adoption, but this list omits major direct rivals to watch: UPM Adhesive Materials in labels, 3M in tapes and graphics, and Checkpoint Systems in identification solutions.
Zebra Technologies competes with Avery Dennison in barcode printing, while its devices that read tags and track goods serve the same retail and logistics workflows as Avery’s intelligent labels. Watch Zebra’s RFID reader and tracking-system demand for clues to customers’ spending on identifying individual items.
Amcor and Avery Dennison both depend on consumer-goods companies’ packaging demand: Amcor sells packaging and dispensing solutions, while Avery sells labels and branded packaging, and Amcor names Avery as a competitor. Demand from Amcor’s nutrition, health, beauty and wellness customers offers a read on overlapping markets for Avery’s labels.
H.B. Fuller shares Avery Dennison’s exposure to manufacturing demand and adhesive-material costs: Fuller sells industrial adhesives to manufacturers, while Avery sells adhesive label materials and performance tapes. Watch demand for Fuller’s industrial adhesives as a signal of the manufacturing conditions facing Avery’s adhesive products.
Graphic Packaging and Avery Dennison share exposure to food and consumer-product companies’ packaging orders: Graphic Packaging sells branded paperboard packaging, while Avery supplies labels and branding materials to those markets. Watch Graphic Packaging’s carton demand for a read on the packaged-goods volumes that also support Avery’s label demand.
Sonoco Products Company shares Avery Dennison’s exposure to consumer-staples production, selling packaging for food, household, personal-care and pharmaceutical products while Avery supplies those markets with labels and branding materials. Sonoco’s Consumer Packaging sales offer a focused view of demand in these everyday-product markets.
Sonoco Products Company earningsSON
Sonoco sells packaging for food, household, personal-care and pharmaceutical products, so its report offers a read on demand in markets that also buy Avery Dennison’s labels.
Read Sonoco’s Consumer Packaging sales together with any volume information it reports. If both hold up or grow, everyday-goods makers are still buying packaging, supporting demand for Avery Dennison’s labels in those markets. If both weaken, the shared customer markets may be cooling, leaving Avery’s related label demand with less support.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Avery Dennison’s Fed rate decision matters because it can change the short-term interest cost on the company’s variable-rate borrowings, reducing or preserving the profit left from selling labels, materials and branding solutions.

If it comes in above expectations
If the policy rate is higher than expected, Avery Dennison may pay more interest on variable-rate borrowing, leaving less profit from its materials and solutions business.
If it comes in below expectations
If the policy rate is lower than expected, interest costs on Avery Dennison’s variable-rate borrowing may ease, leaving more profit from its materials and solutions business.
Avery Dennison Corp. earningsThis company
Avery Dennison sells label materials and branding solutions to brands and manufacturers, and this report will show how volume, product mix and high-value solutions feed into sales and profit.
Read Materials Group organic sales alongside segment adjusted operating income, the company’s measure of segment performance. Sales growth with profit holding up would show that volume or mix is helping counter price pressure; sales growth with weaker profit would mean pricing or costs are eating into the gains. Then compare Solutions Group’s high-value categories with its base business: faster growth in high-value products would show the mix shifting toward more valuable work, while a narrowing gap or reversal would weaken that case. Together, these results show whether demand and product mix are supporting Avery Dennison’s operating profit.
Zebra Technologies Corporation earningsZBRA
Zebra Technologies sells devices that read tags and track goods, so its report will show whether customers are investing in workflows that also use Avery Dennison’s intelligent labels.
Watch demand for Zebra’s RFID readers and tracking systems. Stronger demand would suggest customers are investing in item-identification and tracking workflows, which also use Avery Dennison’s intelligent labels; weaker demand would signal tighter spending and less market support for Avery’s intelligent-label business.
Amcor plc earningsAMCR
Amcor sells packaging and dispensing solutions to nutrition, health, beauty and wellness customers, so its report offers a demand check on markets that overlap with Avery Dennison’s labels.
Read Amcor’s sales in nutrition, health, beauty and wellness. Steady or growing sales would show that customers in these overlapping markets are still buying packaging, supporting demand for Avery Dennison’s labels. Weaker sales would point to pressure on packaging demand and a tougher customer environment for Avery, but would not by itself prove a change in Avery’s sales or market share.
