Company

Company overview

DNA X serves individual cryptocurrency traders worldwide through www.dnax.us. Users can buy and sell cryptocurrencies with cash or cash equivalents, exchange one cryptocurrency for another, and automate trades between cryptocurrency pairs. The company does not hold customers’ crypto assets: customers retain ownership, and DNA X automatically collects its commission when a trade completes. Trading commissions are its main source of revenue.

The platform operates on a limited basis while DNA X monitors performance and addresses bugs. Current trading activity does not generate enough commission revenue to cover operating expenses, leaving the company dependent on additional funding. Formerly known as Sonim Technologies, it sold substantially all of its phone and mobile-hotspot business assets and now focuses on the trading platform.

Its income depends on how much customers trade the cryptocurrencies it supports. DNA X supports assets it has assessed as not being securities under U.S. law, but those assessments are not definitive legal determinations. Regulatory decisions could expose it to enforcement action, while licensing and other cryptocurrency rules can restrict trading or require changes to its operations.

The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.

DNA X’s results hinge on attracting customers and growing trading volume on its newly launched cryptocurrency platform from a very small revenue base, not on its former phone and hotspot business.

  • Coinbase Global competes with DNA X for individual cryptocurrency traders, with both earning fees when customers trade, so competition can pressure DNA X’s pricing and customer acquisition. Watch Coinbase’s consumer trading volume and fees for clues to the trading activity and pricing pressure facing DNA X.

  • Galaxy Digital is a larger cryptocurrency trading competitor identified by DNA X; both earn fees from customers’ trading activity, so Galaxy’s expansion could pressure DNA X’s fees and ability to attract customers. Watch transaction-fee revenue in Galaxy’s Global Markets business, which is typically tied to trading volume, rather than its gains or losses on positions it holds itself.
