Southside Bancshares, Inc. serves individuals, businesses, municipalities and nonprofits through Southside Bank. Its markets are in East and Southeast Texas and the Dallas–Fort Worth, Austin and Houston areas. Customers deposit money with the bank, which uses deposits as its main funding source for lending and securities investments. Borrowers pay interest on financing for homes, commercial properties, construction, business operations and municipal needs. Securities also supply a substantial part of its interest income.
The business depends mainly on the interest it receives exceeding what it pays for deposits and borrowings—its net interest income. Funding costs and the rates earned on loans and investments therefore matter closely. Real estate is its largest lending category, tying the business to borrowers’ repayment ability and property values in its Texas markets. The bank also provides investment management, trust and estate administration, and custody services, alongside other fee-generating financial services.
The parent company receives substantially all its own revenue through dividends from Southside Bank. Federal and state rules restrict those distributions, while banking regulation also limits lending, investments, capital and growth.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Prosperity Bancshares competes with Southside for Texas consumers’ and businesses’ deposits and borrowing, including commercial property and business loans. Watch its deposit gathering and commercial property lending for signs of competition in Southside’s core markets.
First Financial Bankshares competes with Southside for local banking customers in overlapping Texas markets, taking deposits, making loans and providing trust services. Its trust business in Fort Worth and Houston is one area to watch alongside Southside’s management and administration of customers’ assets.
SouthState competes with Southside for Texas loan and deposit customers, but its business spans a much wider area. Its Texas customer activity is the relevant comparison, rather than treating loan interest and deposit trends across its eight-state branch network as a direct read on Southside.
South Plains Financial and Southside both rely on local Texas customers to borrow and supply deposits that fund their community banks’ loans. Watch South Plains’ ability to gather deposits that pay no interest: those accounts offer a useful comparison for Southside’s funding costs.
Great Southern Bancorp offers a comparison for Southside’s real estate lending: both earn interest from borrowers and fund substantial property loans with deposits and borrowings. Watch the interest earned on Great Southern’s adjustable-rate property loans against its funding costs to gauge similar pressures on Southside’s net interest income.
Great Southern Bancorp Inc earningsGSBC
Great Southern's report will show whether interest from adjustable-rate property loans is keeping pace with funding costs, a useful comparison for Southside Bancshares' property lending.
Compare interest income from adjustable-rate property loans with the cost of deposits and borrowings. If loan income keeps pace with or exceeds funding costs, rate repricing is supporting interest earnings at a bank with a property-lending business like Southside's. If funding costs rise faster, margins are under pressure and Southside may face a similar challenge. The banks' loan and funding mixes differ, so this is a comparison, not a direct read on Southside's results.
South Plains Financial, Inc. earningsSPFI
South Plains Financial's report will show whether it can retain deposits that pay no interest, a useful comparison for Southside Bancshares' funding costs.
Watch whether South Plains Financial's noninterest-bearing deposits hold steady or grow, and whether interest-bearing deposits are taking their place. Stable or rising noninterest-bearing deposits show that the bank can continue funding loans with lower-cost money, a useful comparison for Southside. A decline in those deposits alongside growth in interest-bearing ones signals greater funding-cost pressure for a bank like Southside to watch.
Prosperity Bancshares Inc earningsPB
Prosperity Bancshares' report will show how it is gathering Texas deposits and making commercial loans, revealing the competitive pressure Southside Bancshares faces in its core markets.
Read deposit growth alongside changes in commercial property and business lending. If both grow, Prosperity Bancshares is gathering funding and winning loan business in Texas, pointing to stronger competition for Southside in its core markets. If both slow, there is less evidence that this competition is intensifying. Prosperity operates across a wider area, so its figures show a rival's activity, not Southside's own results.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Southside Bank’s rate-sensitive loans, investments, deposits and borrowings determine how Federal Reserve rate decisions change interest income and funding costs, and therefore net interest income—the difference between the two.

If it comes in above expectations
If rates rise more than expected, yields on loans and investments that reprice may lift income, but deposit and borrowing costs may also rise; which effect dominates depends on how quickly each changes and on deposit retention.
If it comes in below expectations
If rates rise less than expected or fall, loan and investment yields may bring in less interest, while slower declines in deposit and borrowing costs could squeeze the difference; the result depends on repricing and deposit retention.
Southside Bancshares, Inc. earningsThis company
Southside Bancshares earns interest on loans and investments and pays for deposits and borrowings, so this report will show whether that income covers funding costs and credit losses.
Read net interest margin—the share of earning assets left as net interest income—alongside credit costs. A wider margin with stable credit costs would show that income from loans and investments is outpacing funding costs without borrower losses eroding the gain. A narrower margin or rising credit costs would show that funding pressure or loan losses are eating into that income.
