Prosperity Bancshares is a bank holding company whose business comes almost entirely from Prosperity Bank. The bank serves individuals and businesses mainly in Texas and Oklahoma, taking deposits and lending for homes, commercial properties, construction and business needs. Customer deposits provide most of its funding; it invests excess deposits mainly in government-backed securities until needed for lending.
Borrowers pay interest on loans, and securities provide interest income. After paying interest on deposits and other funding, the bank keeps the difference—net interest income—which is its largest earnings source. It also earns fees from customer accounts and card services. The business depends on retaining deposits and on the spread between what its loans and securities earn and what its funding costs.
Most loans are tied to real estate, making local property markets and borrowers’ ability to repay in Texas and Oklahoma especially important. Banking regulation limits lending, investments, capital and growth. The holding company also relies on distributions from the bank to meet its own expenses, debt payments and dividends, and banking laws restrict those distributions.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
First Financial Bankshares competes with Prosperity for business loans and household deposits across Central, North Central, Southeast and West Texas. Its lending and deposit growth in those markets is worth watching for signs of competition for Prosperity’s customers.
International Bancshares competes with Prosperity for consumer and small-business deposits and loans in Texas and Oklahoma. Its increasing emphasis on retail banking, including mortgages, makes its consumer business worth watching alongside its established small-business lending.
Home BancShares’ Centennial Bank competes with Prosperity through their Texas banking networks, seeking deposits and lending to commercial and real estate borrowers.
Origin Bancorp competes with Prosperity for business deposits and commercial and real estate borrowers in Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston and East Texas.
Hancock Whitney competes with Prosperity in Houston and other Texas Gulf Coast markets for deposits and business customers needing loans and help managing their cash, or treasury management.
Business First Bancshares’ b1BANK competes with Prosperity for small-business, commercial real estate and consumer banking customers in Houston and Dallas–Fort Worth. Its search for banker teams and acquisitions is worth watching for changes in that competition.
Equity Bancshares competes with Prosperity for deposits and business and property loans in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Its commercial real estate lending is especially worth watching: that category accounted for 53.0% of its total loans at December 31, 2025.
Bank7 Corp. competes with Prosperity for commercial borrowers and depositors in Texas and Oklahoma, but is much smaller and more specialized. Its focus on commercial real estate, hospitality, energy and business lending makes those loan categories the ones to watch rather than its small consumer business.
Prosperity Bancshares Inc earningsThis company
This report shows whether Prosperity Bank can keep earning interest on loans and securities while controlling what it pays for deposits and borrowings.
Read net interest income alongside net interest margin: net interest income is interest received minus interest paid, while net interest margin measures that income against average interest-earning assets. Then compare deposit and borrowing costs with the size and mix of loans, securities and other earning assets. Rising income and margin with funding costs contained would show the deposit-funded lending and investing engine is supporting earnings; falling income or margin as costs rise or earning assets shrink would show that engine is under pressure.
Origin Bancorp, Inc. earningsOBK
Origin Bancorp's report will show how strongly banks are competing for business deposits and commercial and real-estate borrowers in the Texas markets it shares with Prosperity.
Compare Origin Bancorp's deposit growth and deposit costs with growth in commercial and real-estate lending. If deposits and loans grow while deposit costs stay steady, demand in these markets looks firm and Prosperity faces stronger competition for both funding and borrowers. If deposit or loan growth is weak, competition may be easing; if deposit costs rise, banks may be paying more to attract funds, a cost pressure Prosperity could also face.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Prosperity Bank’s net interest income depends on how Fed rate decisions change interest earned on its loans and securities versus interest paid on customer deposits and borrowings.

If it comes in above expectations
Higher rates could lift interest income as loans reprice or new loans are made, but could also raise what Prosperity Bank pays on deposits and borrowings; the balance depends on how quickly each changes.
If it comes in below expectations
Lower rates could reduce interest income as loans reprice or new loans are made, while also lowering what Prosperity Bank pays on deposits and borrowings; the balance depends on how quickly each changes.
