Company

Company overview

Ruanyun Edai Technology helps schools and campus operators run everyday campus services. Its Smart Campus Services business manages dining halls, operates campus retail and supports activities such as dormitory utilities and merchant settlement. Campus operations and student-life services now supply most of its revenue, rather than its historical SmartExam and SmartHomework education products. Schools and campus counterparties are customers, while direct campus retail also brings in sales. Jiangxi Wuwei Management Co., Ltd. and the related-party Nanchang Institute of Science & Technology are substantial customers.

The business depends on retaining campus contracts, student activity, collecting customer payments and coordinating payments to merchants and service providers. Customers generally make no long-term purchase commitments. Smaller businesses include Cogni AI, which digitizes documents and automates workflows; customers buy integrated hardware and software or pay monthly for hardware use and hosted software access. International education remains an early-stage contributor.

The listed company is a Cayman Islands holding company. Much of its China business runs through Jiangxi Ruanyun and its subsidiaries under contracts, not equity ownership. Those contracts provide control and payments, making their performance and legal enforceability essential. Chinese licensing requirements restrict which services it can provide, and profit-distribution and foreign-exchange rules limit how cash can reach the offshore holding company.

Ruanyun’s results now depend chiefly on Chinese campus dining, retail and student-life contracts—their operating costs, collections and whether revenue is recorded gross or net—rather than education software alone.

  • NETCLASS TECHNOLOGY INC competes with Ruanyun for educational institutions buying campus-management software, education software and examination solutions. Its campus software business is the overlap to watch, but it is a narrower comparison now that campus operations and student-life services generate most of Ruanyun’s revenue.
