Company

Company overview

QVC Group buys merchandise from vendors and uses QVC and HSN programs to demonstrate and sell it to consumers. Shoppers pay for goods such as home products, clothing and beauty products; the company is a retailer, not simply a broadcaster selling advertising. Customers can order through QVC.com, HSN.com and mobile apps, as well as shop through television, streaming and social platforms.

The U.S. QxH business supplies most revenue, with QVC-International selling primarily in Japan, Germany, the U.K. and Italy. E-commerce accounts for most sales, and nearly all shipped sales come from returning customers or customers who resume shopping after a break.

Television distribution remains important. QVC pays distributors to carry and position its channels, sometimes sharing merchandise sales revenue with them. Continued access to viewers depends on maintaining and renewing those agreements. FTC orders also restrict certain health and weight-loss product claims, requiring scientific evidence for specified claims.

QVC Group intends to seek Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to restructure its debt. It has disclosed substantial doubt about its ability to continue operating, and says continuity depends on successful debt restructuring. During bankruptcy proceedings, transactions outside ordinary business would require court approval.
