Company

Company overview

Quantum-Si Incorporated helps academic institutions and research companies study proteins by identifying their constituent amino acids. Customers buy its Platinum and Platinum Pro instruments and instrument-specific sample-preparation and sequencing kits. Platinum Analysis Software helps interpret the results, including differences between protein variants. The company also earns service revenue from maintenance contracts that include software access and advanced instrument training. It aims to build recurring consumable sales as customers run more samples.

Commercial sales remain limited, and the company is still moving from product development toward larger-scale commercialization. It has funded operations primarily through equity financing. Expanding the business depends on researchers adopting its workflow, having research budgets or grant funding, and continuing to use installed instruments. Production also relies on outside manufacturers and some sole-source suppliers, including suppliers involved in making its semiconductor chips.

Its protein-sequencing products are sold for research use, not clinical diagnosis. Marketing them for clinical diagnostic use in the United States would generally require FDA authorization.

  • Nautilus Biotechnolgy, Inc. is pursuing the researchers Quantum-Si serves with protein sequencing, offering single-molecule analysis of proteins and their different forms. Watch its early-access protein-analysis services, launched in January 2026, for progress toward broader sales of its Voyager instruments, consumables and software.

  • Seer, Inc. competes with Quantum-Si's protein sequencers for researchers' spending on measuring protein fragments and variants. Its Proteograph instruments, reagents and software prepare and analyze samples using mass spectrometry; adoption by academic and biopharmaceutical customers is worth watching as an alternative to Quantum-Si's sequencing approach.

  • Alamar Biosciences, Inc. competes with Quantum-Si's protein-sequencing platform for academic and biopharmaceutical research budgets by selling instruments, protein-test consumables and software. Watch adoption of its NULISA tests for low-abundance proteins, whose initial applications focused on neurology and immunology.

  • Quanterix Corporation sells protein-detection instruments and consumables to research laboratories that also buy Quantum-Si's protein-sequencing platforms. Its Simoa products detect very low concentrations of protein biomarkers in blood and other fluids, making laboratory demand for those products the relevant area to watch.

  • Bruker Corporation's instruments for protein analysis compete with Quantum-Si's protein sequencers for life-science laboratories' budgets. Bruker sells scientific instruments across many other markets too, so its protein-analysis offerings are more relevant to Quantum-Si than its overall results.

  • Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. competes with Quantum-Si's protein-sequencing platform for laboratories' protein-analysis spending through its proteomics technologies, including acquired Olink. Olink is the business to watch for this rivalry rather than Thermo Fisher's broad mix of laboratory products and services.

  • Illumina Inc's acquired SomaLogic protein-analysis business competes with Quantum-Si's sequencers for proteomics research budgets. Watch SomaLogic rather than treating Illumina's overall sales as a direct comparison: Illumina mainly sells DNA-sequencing instruments and consumables, and sequencing accounted for 92% of total revenue in fiscal 2025.

  • Agilent Technologies Inc. offers laboratories a different route to the protein analysis performed by Quantum-Si's sequencers through its liquid-chromatography mass-spectrometry tools. Watch those instrument offerings rather than all consumable sales: much of Agilent CrossLab's consumables portfolio can serve customers regardless of their instrument choice.

  • Danaher Corporation's life-sciences businesses sell protein-analysis technologies to laboratories also targeted by Quantum-Si's protein sequencers. Those offerings are the relevant competition to watch within a group that also sells biotechnology and diagnostic products and services, often on a recurring basis.

  • Bio-Techne's Protein Sciences reagents and analytical products serve the protein-research buyers Quantum-Si targets with its sequencing platform. Protein Sciences is the line to watch for this overlap; it represented approximately 72% of Bio-Techne's net sales in fiscal 2026.

  • Bio-Rad Laboratories sells instruments and reagents for characterizing and measuring proteins to research and biopharmaceutical laboratories also targeted by Quantum-Si's sequencers. Watch its Life Science business for this competition, rather than Clinical Diagnostics; Life Science accounted for approximately 40% of consolidated net sales in the year ended December 31, 2025.
