ProQR Therapeutics N.V. is trying to treat disease by editing RNA without changing DNA. Its Axiomer platform uses synthetic molecules to guide the body’s own enzymes to selected RNA sites, aiming to correct disease-related changes or alter protein function. It develops its own drug candidates alongside programs with Eli Lilly and Company. Its AX-0810 candidate for cholestatic diseases, which impair bile flow, is in an early clinical study in healthy volunteers; the platform has not yet been clinically validated.
Lilly pays ProQR for access to Axiomer and associated research to develop potential medicines for genetic disorders. Revenue is concentrated in this partnership and principally comes from upfront licensing payments and research services, with additional payments tied to milestones. ProQR has not earned revenue from drug sales or royalties. The Rett Syndrome Research Trust also funds its AX-2402 program for Rett syndrome.
The business depends on Axiomer producing viable medicines and on Lilly continuing to fund and advance partnered programs. Potential future milestone payments and sales royalties depend on those programs progressing successfully. ProQR cannot sell its drug candidates without regulatory approval, which requires evidence of safety and efficacy.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
ProQR’s results hinge on Axiomer development and Lilly’s collaboration payments, while Théa’s progress with ProQR’s divested ophthalmology assets offers additional milestone and royalty potential.
Lilly pays to license ProQR’s Axiomer RNA-editing platform and fund joint drug research, accounting for all of ProQR’s reported 2025 revenue. Watch whether Lilly advances the partnered medicines: its development decisions determine whether ProQR receives future milestone payments and royalties.
Korro Bio competes with ProQR for genetic-medicine partnerships and treatment opportunities; both develop short synthetic molecules called oligonucleotides that enlist the body’s own ADAR enzymes to edit RNA. Korro’s approach is not yet clinically validated in humans, making its clinical progress worth watching alongside Axiomer’s.
Wave Life Sciences competes with ProQR in RNA-editing drug development and in licensing RNA medicines to large drugmakers that pay for research and program rights. Watch GSK’s decisions to advance Wave programs: those selections have generated additional collaboration payments, the same kind of progress ProQR needs from Lilly.
Ionis Pharmaceuticals and ProQR both need their chemically modified oligonucleotide medicines to reach the right tissues safely and change gene function or expression. Ionis already sells medicines directly and through partners; its work on more potent, longer-lasting molecules offers a comparison for the delivery and safety challenges facing Axiomer.
Mirum Pharmaceuticals already sells medicines for cholestatic diseases and is developing further treatments in the market ProQR’s AX-0810 seeks to enter. Livmarli sales for cholestatic itching in ALGS and PFIC provide a concrete view of an established treatment business in that broader market.
Chemomab Therapeutics’ nebokitug competes for the same developing PSC treatment market as ProQR’s cholestatic-disease program. Watch development of nebokitug, an antibody designed to target CCL24 and address both inflammation and fibrosis; Chemomab has not yet generated product-sales revenue.
Alnylam and ProQR share the challenge of getting oligonucleotide medicines into disease-relevant tissues, although Alnylam uses RNA interference while ProQR edits RNA. Alnylam’s delivery technologies and marketed medicines such as AMVUTTRA offer a comparison for Axiomer’s delivery work, not proof that RNA editing will succeed.
Arrowhead and ProQR both need their medicines to act on RNA inside cells, though Arrowhead silences RNA rather than editing it. Arrowhead’s first commercial medicine, REDEMPLO, received U.S. FDA approval in 2025 to reduce triglycerides alongside diet in adults with familial chylomicronemia syndrome—a concrete example of RNA targeting reaching treatment, but through a different mechanism from Axiomer.
Eli Lilly & Co. earningsLLY
Lilly's report offers a window into whether it is advancing medicines partnered with ProQR, which could determine whether ProQR earns future milestone payments and royalties.
Look for whether Lilly says it has advanced partnered programs, then connect that progress to the milestone payments and potential sales royalties ProQR may receive under the agreement. Advancement keeps open a path to development milestones that trigger payments; no sign of progress means those future payments remain uncertain, not earned. Lilly's report reflects the partner's development decisions, not clinical validation of ProQR's own programs.
Mirum Pharmaceuticals, Inc. earningsMIRM
Mirum Pharmaceuticals' report will show how Livmarli is selling in cholestatic diseases, a market reference for the treatment demand ProQR's AX-0810 may face.
Look at Mirum's reported Livmarli sales and growth. Expanding sales would show that an established treatment can build commercial demand in cholestatic diseases, setting a market test for AX-0810 if ProQR advances it; weak sales would suggest demand has not translated into strong sales, but Livmarli's conditions and patients are not identical to AX-0810's, so its results do not predict AX-0810's market performance.
ProQR Therapeutics N.V. earningsThis company
ProQR earns collaboration revenue from Lilly while investing more in research, and this report will show whether that income is keeping pace with the cost of advancing Axiomer.
Read Lilly collaboration revenue alongside research and development costs and operating cash use. Steady collaboration revenue without faster cash burn would show partner funding is still helping cover research; falling revenue with rising costs and greater operating cash use would leave ProQR relying more on its own cash to advance the pipeline. Management previously expected cash to fund operations into mid-2027, and faster spending would put that estimate under pressure.
Korro Bio, Inc. earningsKRRO
Korro Bio's report can show how far another company using ADAR to edit RNA has progressed clinically, offering a same-mechanism reference point for ProQR's Axiomer.
Look for reported progress into human clinical development, not just research spending or the number of candidates. Clinical progress would mean ADAR RNA editing is beginning to be tested in people, but would not establish that ProQR's Axiomer works; without such progress, the mechanism remains unvalidated in humans and ProQR's delivery, safety and efficacy questions remain open.
