OppFi Inc.’s OppLoans platform helps employed U.S. consumers with bank accounts borrow when their credit scores may prevent them from getting traditional bank loans. Its loans are unsecured personal installment loans: borrowers need no collateral and repay over time. OppFi attracts applicants, assesses their ability to repay, and handles servicing and collections; partner banks provide the initial capital and originate the loans.
The banks retain some of the loans’ economic interests and sell participation rights to OppFi. These rights give OppFi a share of the loans’ economics, and borrowers’ interest payments supply most of its revenue—not fees for providing technology to banks. OppFi partly finances these purchases with borrowing secured by the loans or participation rights. It also earns smaller servicing and referral fees.
The business relies entirely on originations by FinWise Bank, First Electronic Bank and Capital Community Bank, while strategic marketing partners bring in most new loans. Its earnings depend on borrower repayments, credit-model accuracy and continued funding. The model also depends on partner banks being legally recognized as the lenders and being able to apply their home-state interest rates elsewhere; state lending restrictions and challenges to that status can limit where and on what terms the platform operates.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
OppFi depends on underserved borrowers repaying and bank partners continuing to make loans, including Capital Community Bank and First Electronic Bank, which together originated about 69% of its 2025 platform loans.
Oportun Financial Corporation and OppFi both provide unsecured personal credit to borrowers traditional lenders often turn away, so demand and repayment performance matter to both. Oportun’s unsecured personal loans generate most of its revenue and profit, making that business’s repayment trends worth watching for clues to stress among OppFi’s borrowers.
OppFi relies on FinWise Bancorp Common’s FinWise Bank to fund and originate loans: the bank accounted for 31.3% of platform net originations in 2025 and pays OppFi for marketing, credit-assessment technology and servicing. Any reduction in FinWise’s lending through OppFi could cut OppFi’s loan volume and revenue.
Upstart Holdings, Inc. competes with OppFi to help lending partners assess personal-loan applicants using machine learning and originate loans. Upstart mainly collects fees from lending partners and institutional investors, while OppFi relies much more on interest from loans it retains, so Upstart’s fee revenue is a read on lending-service demand rather than a direct match for OppFi’s earnings.
Pagaya Technologies Ltd. competes with OppFi to help lenders assess credit with AI and serve additional personal-loan applicants, earning fees from lenders and institutional investors. Watch its personal-loan business for that overlap: Pagaya also serves auto loans and financing for purchases at checkout, so its wider business is not a pure comparison with OppFi.
Consumer Portfolio Services faces the same financial stress among U.S. borrowers with weak credit that drives losses on OppFi’s unsecured loans, but it finances cars by buying and servicing dealers’ loan contracts and collecting borrowers’ payments. Repayment performance on those car loans offers another view of these borrowers’ ability to keep up with debt payments.
Initial Jobless Claims (Oct/17)
OppFi earns most of its revenue from interest on loans to generally employed U.S. consumers, so new unemployment claims track a risk to borrowers’ ability to repay and to the value of those loans.
Expected200.0KLast release199.0K
If it comes in above expectations
If the reading is above the 200.0K estimate, it is above the previous 199.0K. More claims signal rising layoffs and a weaker labour market, which may leave OppFi borrowers less able to repay and increase defaults and charge-offs on its loans.
If it comes in below expectations
Fewer claims signal a labour market holding up, which may help OppFi borrowers keep their jobs and repay, limiting defaults and charge-offs on its loans.
FinWise Bancorp earningsFINW
FinWise Bancorp’s report will show whether FinWise Bank keeps originating loans through OppFi’s platform; fewer bank-funded loans would reduce OppFi’s loan volume and interest revenue.
Look for whether FinWise Bank maintains the loans it originates through OppFi’s platform and how much they represent of platform originations. Stable volume means OppFi retains this source of bank funding and lending; a decline points to less loan volume and a potential loss of interest revenue from an important partner.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
OppFi earns most of its revenue from interest on consumer loan balances, while variable-rate warehouse debt tied to Term SOFR makes its own borrowing costs move with interest rates.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
OppFi’s warehouse borrowing costs may rise as its variable rates reset higher, leaving less of its loan interest revenue after interest expense.
If it comes in below expectations
OppFi’s warehouse borrowing costs may fall as its variable rates reset lower, leaving more of its loan interest revenue after interest expense.
Oportun Financial Corporation earningsOPRT
Oportun Financial Corporation’s unsecured personal-loan repayment trends offer OppFi a read on payment stress among borrowers the two businesses serve.
Check whether delinquencies and charge-offs on Oportun’s unsecured personal loans improve, alongside the size of its loan book. Better repayment would be consistent with easing stress among some borrowers the companies serve; worsening delinquencies or charge-offs would flag a risk of higher credit losses on OppFi’s unsecured loans.
JOLTs Job Openings (Sep)
OppFi earns most of its revenue from interest on loans to generally employed U.S. consumers, so job openings offer a signal about borrowers’ prospects for staying employed and repaying.
Expected7.0MLast release7.079M
If it comes in above expectations
More openings point to stronger hiring demand and wage pressure, which may support borrowers’ jobs and repayment and limit credit losses on OppFi’s loans.
If it comes in below expectations
If the reading is below the 7.0M estimate, it is below the previous 7.079M. Fewer openings point to weaker hiring prospects, which may make it harder for OppFi’s borrowers to stay employed and repay, increasing defaults and credit losses.
OppFi Inc. earningsThis company
OppFi earns mainly from interest on outstanding loans, and this report will show how much operating income remains after credit losses and expenses.
Read net revenue—total revenue less changes in finance-receivable fair value and credit-loss provisions—alongside operating expenses. Rising net revenue with controlled expenses would show more loan income reaching operating income; if loss provisions or expenses rise faster, operating income would be squeezed, showing that higher-yield loans are not leaving as much profit behind.
Non Farm Payrolls (Oct)
OppFi earns most of its revenue from interest on loans to generally employed U.S. consumers, so payrolls track job and income conditions that affect borrowers’ repayment and the value of its loans.
More jobs added suggest stronger hiring and income, which may support OppFi borrowers’ repayment and limit credit losses; fewer suggest weaker conditions and greater risk of defaults and losses.
