Company

Company overview

Oncolytics Biotech is a clinical-stage drug developer focused on gastrointestinal cancers. Its only product for human use, pelareorep, is an experimental treatment delivered intravenously. It uses a virus intended to multiply in susceptible cancer cells, destroy them and stimulate an immune response against tumors.

The company has no products approved for sale and has mainly funded its work by raising equity rather than selling medicines. It is seeking a partner because it lacks the financial resources to complete pelareorep’s development alone. Its planned partnership model would exchange product rights and a share of future sales proceeds for help funding trials and marketing the drug; the company could also receive licensing fees, milestone payments or royalties.

Pelareorep still needs further clinical testing and regulatory approval before it can be marketed. Continued development depends on securing financing and a partner. Trial supply also relies primarily on one U.S. contract manufacturer, so a disruption there could delay the program.

  • Replimune Group, Inc. and Oncolytics Biotech, Inc. both depend on turning viruses that treat cancer into approved medicines, making clinical results and regulatory decisions relevant to both. Watch RP1’s development and approval progress: Replimune had no approved products or product-sale revenue through the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026.

  • Genelux Corporation offers a comparison for Oncolytics Biotech, Inc.’s intravenous cancer-virus approach: Genelux uses vaccinia viruses, while Oncolytics uses reovirus. Watch Olvi-Vec’s intravenous trials in recurrent lung cancer—the U.S. Phase 2 non-small cell trial and China Phase 1b/2 small cell trial—for evidence on this delivery approach.

  • CG Oncology, Inc. and Oncolytics Biotech, Inc. both develop viruses that selectively multiply in tumors, but target different cancers: bladder cancer for CG Oncology and mainly gastrointestinal cancers for Oncolytics. Cretostimogene’s results in high- and intermediate-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer offer a comparison for this approach, not a direct test of pelareorep.

  • Candel Therapeutics, Inc. shares Oncolytics Biotech, Inc.’s reliance on viral cancer immunotherapies, using adenovirus and herpes simplex virus rather than reovirus. Its pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma program has been paused since October 2025 pending grants or other non-dilutive external funding, limiting the current overlap with Oncolytics’s pancreatic cancer work.

  • Calidi Biotherapeutics, Inc. and Oncolytics Biotech, Inc. both seek to deliver cancer-killing viruses through the body to tumors: Calidi’s RedTail targets metastatic sites, while pelareorep is given intravenously and replicates in tumors. Watch whether RedTail’s reported delivery and activity at metastatic sites in animal models translate into clinical evidence.

  • Elicio Therapeutics, Inc. is a competing approach in cancers Oncolytics Biotech, Inc. targets, developing immunotherapies for KRAS-mutated pancreatic and colorectal cancers while pelareorep replicates in RAS-mutated tumors. Watch ELI-002 7P’s Phase 2 results in KRAS-driven pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma for progress in this overlapping treatment field.
