Most of Neogen Corp’s revenue comes from Food Safety. Food and feed producers, processors and laboratories buy its test kits, culture media and related supplies to check for pathogens, toxins, allergens and sanitation problems. Most kits are used once, so continued testing requires fresh supplies. Customers generally buy through purchase orders rather than long-term contracts. Neogen also sells software through Neogen Analytics to organize testing and sanitation data.
Its smaller Animal Safety business sells veterinary supplies, medicines, vaccines and pest-control products to veterinarians, livestock producers, retailers and distributors. It also earns fees for animal DNA testing and related analysis. Neogen has agreed to sell this Genomics business to Zoetis, but the sale remains subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.
Reliable product supply is important to both businesses. Some food-safety lines rely on sole- or single-source suppliers. Petrifilm products are still manufactured at 3M plants while Neogen transfers production to its own operations; that transition requires process validation, regulatory approvals and continuity of quality and supply. Certain products also require approval or registration in the markets where they are sold.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Neogen’s results depend chiefly on demand for food-production testing and the shift of Petrifilm manufacturing from 3M plants to its own production, making 3M a company to watch during the transition.
IDEXX competes with Neogen for water, livestock and dairy customers buying diagnostic consumables and testing services. Watch IDEXX’s Water and Livestock, Poultry and Dairy businesses for demand for water tests and milk-quality and safety testing, where the two companies overlap.
Zoetis both competes with Neogen in selling animal-health products and genetic testing to livestock producers and veterinarians and has agreed to buy Neogen’s Genomics business for $160 million. Watch regulatory approval of the sale: Australia and New Zealand moved their reviews into a second phase in July 2026, and a failed or delayed sale could leave Neogen funding and supporting the business longer.
Thermo Fisher competes with Neogen for laboratory and food-safety testing purchases, selling culture media used to grow microbes, pathogen-detection products and related laboratory consumables.
Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. earningsTMO
Thermo Fisher sells culture media and pathogen-testing products that compete with Neogen for food producers’ and laboratories’ testing budgets, so its report offers a read on demand around Neogen’s Food Safety business.
Look for any reported results on Thermo Fisher’s culture media, pathogen-detection products and related laboratory consumables, and compare them with Neogen’s Food Safety revenue. Strength in those products would suggest a better purchasing environment for food producers and laboratories, but would not prove Neogen is winning more orders; weakness could point to more cautious buying for Neogen’s food-safety products too. The comparison helps separate a market-demand shift from how each company is winning business.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
For Neogen, the Fed’s rate decision matters because higher rates can raise the interest Neogen pays on its floating-rate debt, leaving less earnings after interest.

If it comes in above expectations
If the Fed sets rates higher than expected, Neogen may pay more interest on debt whose rates adjust, leaving less earnings after interest.
If it comes in below expectations
If the Fed sets rates lower than expected, Neogen may pay less interest on debt whose rates adjust, leaving more earnings after interest.
Idexx Laboratories Inc earningsIDXX
IDEXX sells testing products and services to water and livestock, poultry and dairy customers that overlap with Neogen’s, so its report can show how demand in those testing markets is holding up.
Focus on IDEXX’s Water business and its Livestock, Poultry and Dairy business, then compare their direction with Neogen’s related testing revenue. Strength at IDEXX would suggest customers in overlapping markets are still buying tests; weakness would point to more cautious purchasing. The companies’ products and revenue measures are not identical, so this is a clue about market demand, not direct proof of Neogen’s orders or market share.
ZOETIS INC. earningsZTS
Zoetis sells animal-health products to livestock producers and veterinarians who also buy from Neogen, so its report helps show whether demand in that market is reaching Neogen too.
Compare any reported Zoetis animal-health results with Neogen’s Animal Safety revenue. Strength at both companies would fit improving demand from livestock producers and veterinarians; Zoetis growth while Neogen weakens would raise the possibility that spending is shifting toward a competitor, rather than the whole market simply improving. Weakness at Zoetis too would point to continued market pressure. Earnings results alone do not establish the approval or closing status of Neogen’s proposed Genomics sale.
Neogen Corp earningsThis company
Neogen sells food-safety testing and animal-safety products, and this report will show whether Food Safety can protect its margins through the Petrifilm production transition as Animal Safety steadies.
Read Food Safety revenue alongside gross margin, then check Animal Safety revenue. Rising Food Safety revenue with a firmer margin would show that testing products are selling while the extra costs of the production transition ease; rising revenue with a weaker margin, or falling revenue, would point to continued pressure from volumes or transition costs. Stabilizing or recovering Animal Safety revenue would suggest that earlier supply and market pressures are easing; another decline would mean the segment has not steadied. Together, these results show whether Neogen’s main testing business is improving and its other segment is beginning to stabilize.
