Company

Company overview

MapLight Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company whose lead drug candidate, ML-007C-MA, is being tested for schizophrenia and psychosis associated with Alzheimer’s disease. It combines two compounds in a fixed dose and is in the Phase 2 ZEPHYR and VISTA trials for those respective conditions. MapLight also develops ML-004 for symptoms of autism spectrum disorder.

The company has no approved products and has generated no revenue. Share sales and research grants have funded its work, and it needs further financing to complete development. Its intended product-sales business depends first on successful clinical trials and regulatory approval; U.S. sales would then depend partly on government and private insurers covering and reimbursing treatment. MapLight relies on outside manufacturers for drug supplies, including a limited number of single-source suppliers for components of ML-007C-MA, and plans to build U.S. sales and distribution capabilities if a drug is approved.

The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.

  • Bristol Myers Squibb competes with both initial uses of MapLight’s ML-007C-MA: it sells Cobenfy for schizophrenia and is developing it for Alzheimer’s disease psychosis. Watch Cobenfy’s progress in Alzheimer’s psychosis, where MapLight says no medicine has FDA approval for that use.

  • Neurocrine Biosciences is developing several schizophrenia drugs that act on muscarinic receptors and could compete directly with MapLight’s ML-007C-MA. Progress on direclidine, NBI-'570 and NBI-'567 is the relevant signal for MapLight, rather than Neurocrine’s existing INGREZZA sales.

  • Neumora Therapeutics and MapLight are developing schizophrenia drugs that act on muscarinic receptors, so their clinical results speak to the same treatment opportunity. Neumora’s work is at an earlier stage; it had no approved or commercialized products and no product-sales revenue through December 31, 2025.

  • Acadia Pharmaceuticals’ ACP-204 targets Alzheimer’s disease psychosis, competing for the same patients as MapLight’s ML-007C-MA but acting through other receptors. Watch ACP-204’s development rather than equating it with Acadia’s marketed NUPLAZID, which treats hallucinations and delusions associated with Parkinson’s disease psychosis.

  • LB Pharmaceuticals’ oral schizophrenia candidate LB-102 is in Phase 3, ahead of MapLight’s Phase 2 ML-007C-MA in development for the same treatment market. Its schizophrenia trial results are the news to watch for MapLight, distinct from LB-102’s development for other psychiatric disorders.

  • AbbVie’s emraclidine could compete with MapLight’s ML-007C-MA: both are being developed for schizophrenia and act on muscarinic receptors. Emraclidine’s clinical performance is the part of this broad medicine developer’s news that informs MapLight’s competitive opportunity.

  • Alto Neuroscience’s schizophrenia program competes for a treatment market also targeted by MapLight’s ML-007C-MA. Focus on results in schizophrenia patients: Alto’s clinical pipeline also covers depression and Parkinson’s disease, so not every trial update bears on MapLight.

  • Minerva Neurosciences develops roluperidone for the same schizophrenia patient population as MapLight, but targets negative symptoms, a distinct treatment need. Read roluperidone’s results in that narrower context rather than as a direct comparison with MapLight’s ML-007C-MA.
