Company overview

Larimar Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company whose business currently depends entirely on nomlabofusp, its only drug candidate in clinical development. It is developing the treatment for people with Friedreich’s ataxia, a progressive disease involving a shortage of the protein frataxin. Given by injection under the skin, nomlabofusp is designed to carry frataxin across cell membranes and into mitochondria using Larimar’s peptide-delivery technology.

Larimar has no drugs for sale and has not generated revenue. Investors, rather than customers, currently fund its work, mainly through stock offerings. It needs additional funding to support development and potential commercialization.

Future drug revenue depends on completing development, obtaining regulatory approval and securing patient use and healthcare coverage or out-of-pocket payment. Larimar cannot market nomlabofusp before the relevant regulators approve it. It also relies on a small number of outside manufacturers for supply and would need to build its own sales and distribution capabilities or arrange for third parties to provide them.

  • Biogen already sells Skyclarys to treat Friedreich’s ataxia, establishing the market Larimar’s nomlabofusp would enter if approved. Watch Skyclarys sales for a view of the existing treatment market, while Larimar seeks to address the underlying shortage of frataxin.

  • Design Therapeutics is developing another way to treat Friedreich’s ataxia: changing FXN gene expression rather than delivering frataxin protein as Larimar’s nomlabofusp does. Its progress offers a comparison between these approaches; as of December 31, 2025, Design had no approved products or product-sales revenue.

  • Lexeo Therapeutics’ gene therapy targets frataxin in the heart in people with Friedreich’s ataxia, overlapping with Larimar’s effort to replace frataxin throughout the body. Watch its LX2006 program for progress in treating the disease’s cardiac manifestations, rather than treating it as a like-for-like version of nomlabofusp.

  • PTC Therapeutics’ pursuit of vatiquinone for Friedreich’s ataxia provides a regulatory comparison for Larimar’s nomlabofusp program. After a December 2025 FDA meeting, PTC was told that resubmission would require an additional open-label or single-arm study using the disease’s natural history as a control—the evidence requirement to watch.

  • Solid Biosciences is developing SGT-212 gene therapy for the same Friedreich’s ataxia patients Larimar aims to treat with nomlabofusp. SGT-212’s development progress, rather than sales of an approved treatment, is the relevant sign of how this competing option is advancing.

  • Voyager Therapeutics’ gene-therapy collaboration with Neurocrine targets the same Friedreich’s ataxia population as Larimar’s nomlabofusp. Voyager receives fees and milestone payments from partners, but progress in this specific program is more relevant to Larimar than funding totals across Voyager’s partnerships.
