Kontoor Brands owns Wrangler, Lee and Helly Hansen. Wrangler contributes the most revenue; Wrangler and Lee sell denim and other apparel, while Helly Hansen adds technical outdoor clothing and workwear. The company also sells footwear and accessories. It sources most products from contract manufacturers and makes the rest in its own Mexican factories.
Most revenue comes from supplying retailers, with U.S. wholesale the largest channel. Kontoor also sells directly to shoppers through its brands’ stores and websites. Partners pay royalties for permission to use its brands in specified product categories and regions.
The business relies heavily on large retailers, especially Walmart, its largest customer. Wholesale customers generally buy through purchase orders rather than long-term agreements, so continued orders matter more than contracted future sales. Its credit agreement also limits additional borrowing, asset sales, certain investments and shareholder distributions.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Levi Strauss competes directly with Kontoor's Wrangler and Lee for shoppers buying branded jeans and casual clothing, selling both through retailers and directly to consumers. Watch sales of Levi’s core products, including 501 jeans, for a read on the competition facing Kontoor's jeans businesses.
Walmart buys Wrangler and Lee products to resell to shoppers and accounted for 30% of Kontoor's 2025 revenue, so its buying decisions matter directly to Kontoor. Watch for cuts to orders or selling space for these categories: purchases generally rely on purchase orders rather than long-term agreements.
VF's The North Face and Timberland compete with Kontoor's Helly Hansen and Wrangler in outdoor and workwear products, selling to retailers and directly to shoppers. VF's Outdoor segment, which includes both brands, is the part of its results to watch for this competition.
Columbia Sportswear competes with Kontoor's Helly Hansen and Wrangler for technical outdoor clothing purchases, selling through retailers and directly to consumers. Watch its product news on materials and technical performance, areas Columbia uses to distinguish its outdoor clothing.
PVH competes with Kontoor's Lee and Wrangler through Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger jeans and casual clothing, sold to retailers and directly to shoppers. Sales of these products are the relevant comparison, rather than PVH's broader range of underwear, footwear and other goods.
Boot Barn buys Kontoor products for its stores and online shop, tying its western and workwear demand to Wrangler's growth categories. Watch its apparel sales, which accounted for 37% of fiscal 2026 sales, rather than treating its larger boot business as a direct read on Wrangler clothing.
The Buckle's sales to U.S. shoppers offer a read on denim demand relevant to Kontoor's Wrangler and Lee businesses. Denim accounted for 42.5% of its fiscal 2025 net sales, making that product line more useful to watch than its footwear or accessories.
V.F. Corporation earningsVFC
VF’s Outdoor results, including The North Face and Timberland, will show how retailers and shoppers are buying outdoor and workwear products that compete with Kontoor Brands’ Helly Hansen and Wrangler.
Focus on VF’s Outdoor sales, not the company as a whole. Growth would show retailer and shopper demand holding up in categories that overlap with Kontoor Brands’ brands; weakness would point to softer demand or fiercer competition for those products.
Kontoor Brands, Inc. earningsThis company
Kontoor Brands’ report will show whether Wrangler can keep offsetting Lee’s weakness and whether Helly Hansen can add sales without diluting margins.
Read revenue and segment operating margins together for all three brands. Continued Wrangler growth and a Lee recovery would show growth extending beyond Wrangler; if Lee keeps shrinking or Helly Hansen adds sales at a weak margin, expansion is not yet translating into broader, steadier profit.
Boot Barn Holdings, Inc. earningsBOOT
Boot Barn’s apparel sales will show demand for western and workwear clothing, a retail channel for Wrangler products from Kontoor Brands.
Focus on Boot Barn’s apparel sales, not its larger boot business. Apparel growth would show demand holding up in this retail channel and support sales of Wrangler products; falling apparel sales would weaken that signal even if boots sell well.
Retail Sales MoM (Oct)
Retail sales track how much consumers spend at stores, and stronger or weaker spending can change Walmart’s and other retailers’ orders for Wrangler, Lee and Helly Hansen apparel, affecting Kontoor’s wholesale revenue.
Stronger retail sales suggest consumers are spending more and may support retailers’ orders for Kontoor’s brands; weaker sales suggest softer spending and may lead retailers to reduce or cancel orders.
Walmart Inc. earningsWMT
Walmart’s buying and merchandising decisions will show whether it keeps selling Wrangler and Lee to shoppers, a major source of Kontoor Brands’ revenue.
Watch for cuts to orders or shelf space for these products. Steady buying and placement would show Kontoor Brands’ major customer continuing to provide a sales channel for Wrangler and Lee; cuts could cost Kontoor orders and revenue, which are generally not protected by long-term wholesale contracts.
