Kforce serves mainly Fortune 500 and similarly sized companies that need skilled people for projects or temporary roles. Technology work accounts for nearly all its revenue; finance and accounting staffing is a smaller business. It supplies individual consultants or teams, either to supplement a client’s workforce or to deliver agreed project outcomes.
These finite assignments, called Flex, generate nearly all revenue. Clients pay based mainly on consultants’ billable hours and hourly rates, while Kforce pays consultant compensation and related employment costs. Its smaller Direct Hire service earns fees for finding permanent employees or when clients hire consultants previously assigned temporarily.
The business depends on clients continuing to fund projects and on Kforce finding suitably skilled professionals. Its focus on large companies can concentrate revenue among its biggest clients. Many technology consultants work in the United States on visas, primarily H-1B visas, so immigration rules affect the available talent pool. Kforce also needs state licenses and approvals to operate its staffing business.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Everforth, Inc.'s ASGN commercial business and Kforce compete for large companies' spending on experienced IT professionals and consulting teams. Watch ASGN's commercial consulting revenue for a read on demand for the project work that is becoming a larger part of Kforce's Technology business.
Robert Half and Kforce compete for employers paying to fill temporary technology and accounting roles or recruit permanent staff. Robert Half's contract staffing and permanent placement results offer a comparison for demand across Kforce's staffing and Direct Hire businesses.
ManpowerGroup competes with Kforce for employers' staffing budgets and explicitly names Kforce as a specialized rival. Its Americas staffing and interim-services revenue is the line to watch for demand for temporary workers, rather than its broader training and workforce consulting services.
Kelly Services and Kforce compete to supply employers with technology professionals, whether for temporary assignments, permanent jobs or projects with defined outcomes. Kelly's Science, Engineering & Technology business, focused predominantly on North America, is the closer comparison for Kforce than its school staffing business.
Cognizant competes for enterprise technology project spending as Kforce expands beyond supplying staff into delivering solutions. Clients pay Cognizant for consulting and application development; demand for that work offers a comparison for Kforce's growing solutions engagements.
DHI Group sells employers and staffing firms, including Kforce, access to technology candidates and job postings through Dice, so both businesses depend on technology hiring demand. Watch Dice's recruitment-package revenue for a read on U.S. technology and engineering recruiting spending, rather than DHI's security-cleared recruiting business.
Korn Ferry's Interim and Professional Search services compete with Kforce to fill employers' temporary professional roles and permanent vacancies. Demand for those services is the relevant comparison for Kforce's staffing and placement fees, rather than Korn Ferry's broader organizational consulting work.
Robert Half Inc. earningsRHI
Robert Half competes with Kforce for employers' spending on contract staffing and permanent placements, and its report will show whether employers are still paying for both.
Look at Robert Half's contract staffing revenue and permanent placement business separately. If both hold up, employers are still buying temporary staffing and permanent recruiting, a supportive demand signal for Kforce's Flex and Direct Hire services. If both weaken, demand for both kinds of hiring is fading, making Kforce's market tougher.
Initial Jobless Claims (Oct/17)
Weekly jobless claims count new applications for unemployment benefits; rising claims can signal weaker U.S. employment conditions that lead Kforce clients to cut consultant hours or defer projects, reducing staffing revenue.
Expected200.0KLast release199.0K
If it comes in above expectations
If the reading is above the 200.0K estimate, it is above the previous 199.0K. More claims can signal rising layoffs and weaker employment conditions; clients may pull back on consultant use or defer projects, reducing Kforce’s billed hours and revenue.
If it comes in below expectations
Fewer claims can signal a more resilient labour market; clients may be less inclined to cut consultant use or defer projects, supporting Kforce’s billed hours and revenue.
Kforce Inc. earningsThis company
Kforce earns most of its revenue by placing technology consultants with clients, and this report will show whether client demand supports that revenue without squeezing gross profit after consultant costs.
Read Technology revenue alongside its gross margin—the share left after direct costs such as consultant compensation. If revenue holds and the margin holds, clients are still buying Kforce's technology expertise at rates that cover those costs. If revenue weakens or the margin thins, lower client use, pricing pressure, or rising direct costs are squeezing the business.
Everforth, Inc. earningsEFOR
Everforth competes with Kforce for large companies' IT project budgets, and its commercial consulting revenue will show whether clients are still funding that kind of work.
Watch the change in Everforth's commercial consulting revenue. Growth would show that large companies are still funding consulting projects, supporting demand for the solutions work Kforce is expanding. A decline would suggest clients are tightening project budgets, putting pressure on the same kind of work Kforce seeks.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
Kforce’s borrowing costs on its revolving credit facility can rise or fall with interest rates, changing the interest expense that reduces earnings.
Expected4.0%Last release4.0%
If it comes in above expectations
Higher rates can raise interest expense on Kforce’s outstanding borrowing and make future borrowing costlier, leaving less earnings after interest.
If it comes in below expectations
Lower rates can reduce interest expense on Kforce’s borrowing and make future borrowing cheaper, leaving more earnings after interest.
JOLTs Job Openings (Sep)
Job openings track advertised positions employers are looking to fill; more openings can lead Kforce clients to seek more consultants and permanent-hire placements, supporting billed hours and placement-fee revenue.
Expected7.0MLast release7.079M
If it comes in above expectations
More openings can mean clients have more hiring needs, potentially increasing demand for Kforce’s consultants and placement services and supporting revenue.
If it comes in below expectations
If the reading is below the 7.0M estimate, it is below the previous 7.079M. Fewer openings can mean clients have less need to fill roles, potentially reducing demand for Kforce’s consultants and placement services and weighing on revenue.
Non Farm Payrolls (Oct)
The monthly jobs report tracks changes in U.S. employment, including jobs added; stronger hiring can lead Kforce clients to seek more consultant hours and permanent-hire placements, supporting revenue.
More jobs added point to stronger hiring that may support Kforce’s consultant assignments and placement fees; fewer jobs added point to weaker hiring that may reduce client demand and pressure revenue.
