Company

Company overview

Inovio Pharmaceuticals develops DNA medicines for HPV-associated diseases, cancer and infectious diseases, paired with its CELLECTRA delivery devices. These devices use electrical pulses to help DNA enter cells, a process called electroporation. Its current priority is seeking U.S. approval and preparing to commercialize INO-3107 for recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, a disease involving recurring growths in the respiratory tract.

The company has no products approved for human use and no commercial product sales. It earns limited revenue from licensing and research agreements, with ApolloBio accounting for all its latest reported revenue. ApolloBio holds exclusive rights to develop and commercialize VGX-3100 in China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

INOVIO needs additional financing to complete development and bring products to market. Future product sales depend on clinical evidence and regulatory approval of both the medicine and its delivery device; it cannot sell the combination without authorization for both parts.

INOVIO’s prospects hinge on INO-3107 approval, commercialization and financing, with Nykode adding competition in recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) outside this list.

  • Precigen already sells Papzimeos in the United States for adults with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, competing directly for the patients INOVIO seeks to treat with INO-3107. Watch Papzimeos patient uptake and insurance coverage: Precigen is building its market while INOVIO still needs approval and commercialization before expecting material product revenue.

  • PDS Biotechnology Corporation competes with INOVIO in developing treatments that use the immune system against HPV-associated cancers, so its clinical progress matters to the same treatment markets. PDS has not generated product revenue through its 2025 reporting period; its HPV-cancer trial progress, rather than sales, is the relevant comparison for INOVIO.

  • BioNTech competes with INOVIO in investigational immune-based treatments for HPV-associated cancers, despite their different vaccine platforms. BioNTech sells the COVID-19 vaccine Comirnaty, but its HPV-cancer clinical progress—not those vaccine sales—is what to watch for this rivalry.
