Hope Bancorp, Inc. serves businesses and individuals through Bank of Hope, whose branches are mainly in multi-ethnic communities across the United States. Its Hawaii banking franchise operates as Territorial Savings, a division of Bank of Hope. Customer deposits supply most of the money the bank uses to make business, commercial real estate and home loans and to buy investment securities. Borrowers pay interest, and the bank keeps the difference between the interest it earns and its funding costs; this provides most of its income.
Account-service fees and loan sales provide a smaller source of income. For small-business loans partly guaranteed by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the bank generally sells the guaranteed portion at a premium and collects fees for continuing to service the loan.
Most of the loan portfolio is secured by commercial real estate, making borrowers’ repayment capacity and the performance of income-producing properties important to the business. Earnings also depend on retaining deposits and managing the gap between lending returns and funding costs. Banking regulation limits lending, investments and growth through capital and other requirements; the SBA business also depends on federal guarantees and the bank’s Preferred Lender status.
The risk section is the longest, dullest part of the filing. This keeps only what can really hurt you: where it hits, how hard, when it plays out.
Every company claims an edge. Each one is checked against hard numbers like margins and returns: which hold, and which line gives way first.
Hanmi Financial competes with Hope Bancorp for loans and deposits from Korean-American and other multi-ethnic business communities in California and several other states. Watch Hanmi’s small-business lending and sales of loans partly guaranteed by the Small Business Administration (SBA), businesses that overlap with Hope’s interest and loan-sale income.
Cathay General Bancorp competes with Hope Bancorp for California small-business customers, lending to them and handling their deposits and international banking. Cathay’s commercial-property lending and loans partly guaranteed by the Small Business Administration (SBA) are concrete areas to watch for competition with Hope.
Banc of California competes with Hope Bancorp to lend to California businesses, hold their deposits and manage their cash and payments. Its business-deposit gathering and cash-management services are worth watching for competition over the banking relationships Hope also seeks.
CVB Financial, through Citizens Business Bank, competes with Hope Bancorp for California businesses’ loans and day-to-day operating deposits, with both seeking ongoing banking relationships with those customers.
California BanCorp competes with Hope Bancorp for California small and medium-sized businesses that need commercial loans and ongoing banking services. Its relationships with manufacturing, wholesale-distribution and professional-services customers show where that competition plays out.
Westamerica Bancorporation competes with Hope Bancorp for small-business banking customers in Northern and Central California. Through Westamerica Bank, it focuses on serving small businesses—the customer group to watch for this regional overlap with Hope.
Cathay General Bancorp earningsCATY
Cathay General's report will show how its commercial-property and SBA lending reflects the competition for California small-business customers it shares with Hope Bancorp.
Watch Cathay General's commercial lending and SBA lending activity. More lending would show California small businesses are still borrowing and that a rival is actively pursuing the same customers; slower lending could mean weaker demand or a pullback by Cathay, not that Hope Bancorp has won those customers. The conclusion is how active this shared lending market is, not which bank gained share.
Hope Bancorp, Inc. earningsThis company
Hope Bancorp's report will show whether the spread between loan income and funding costs supports earnings, and whether credit costs are rising on its commercial real estate loans.
Read net interest margin alongside the provision for credit losses. Net interest margin is net interest income as a share of average interest-earning assets; commercial real estate loans were about 58% of Hope Bancorp's loan portfolio at the end of 2025. A wider margin with no marked rise in provisions would show that income from loans and other assets is not being offset by funding costs or credit losses. A narrower margin or higher provisions would point to funding pressure or borrower stress weighing on earnings. The conclusion is whether spread income can withstand credit costs.
Fed Interest Rate Decision
For Bank of Hope, the Fed’s decision on its benchmark interest rate matters because changes in borrowing rates can change what the bank earns on loans and securities versus what it pays depositors and lenders, affecting net interest income.

If it comes in above expectations
If rates rise more than expected, yields on new and repricing loans and securities may increase, but depositors and other lenders may also demand higher rates; the change in Bank of Hope’s net interest income depends on which side adjusts more and how quickly.
If it comes in below expectations
If rates fall more than expected, yields on new and repricing loans and securities may decline, while deposit and borrowing costs may also ease; the change in Bank of Hope’s net interest income depends on which side adjusts more and how quickly.
