Company

Company overview

Hooker Furnishings Corporation supplies furniture that retailers sell to households, mainly at medium and upper price points. Most sales come from imported furniture: the company designs and markets products, buys them from overseas manufacturers, and delivers them to retail customers through warehouses or direct-container shipments. Its Hooker Furniture brand includes bedroom, dining and home-office furniture, alongside imported upholstered seating.

The company also makes upholstered furniture in the United States, including leather seating through Bradington-Young and custom fabric furniture through HF Custom. Sunset West supplies outdoor furniture, while Samuel Lawrence Hospitality designs and supplies furnishings for upscale hotels. Furniture sales provide all of the company’s revenue.

The business depends on consumers’ willingness to buy furniture and retailers’ ordering and inventory decisions. No single customer dominates sales, but several large accounts are important. On the supply side, imports depend heavily on Vietnam and a small group of major suppliers there. Keeping those products available, and managing tariffs and shipping costs, are central to filling orders at prices customers will accept.

  • Flexsteel competes with Hooker Furnishings for furniture retailers’ purchases of stationary and reclining seating, bedroom furniture and dining furniture. Its sales in these categories are worth watching for the demand facing Hooker’s seating and wood furniture businesses.

  • La-Z-Boy competes with Hooker Furnishings for household purchases of mid-to-upper-priced upholstered and wood furniture sold through furniture retailers. Watch its reports of shoppers moving to cheaper products: La-Z-Boy says that shift can hurt its position, making it relevant to Hooker’s medium- and upper-priced range.

  • Ethan Allen competes with Hooker Furnishings for consumers furnishing their homes, selling customizable upholstered furniture, wood furniture and décor through its design centers and website. Its sales of customizable furniture offer a comparison for Hooker’s custom fabric and leather seating businesses.

  • Havertys’ furniture sales to relatively affluent households offer a read on demand for Hooker Furnishings’ medium- and upper-priced residential furniture. Watch spending by those customers rather than treating Havertys as a Hooker sales channel: virtually all the furniture it carries bears its own brand.

  • XMAX competes with Hooker Furnishings for overlapping furniture distributors and national retailers, marketing sofas and other furniture made by third parties. Watch sofa sales rather than total revenue: in the year ended December 31, 2025, sofas accounted for about 30% of sales, while marble slabs were the largest category at about 47%.

  • Somnigroup shares Hooker Furnishings’ exposure to household spending on home furnishings, selling mattresses through bedding retailers and wholesale channels rather than Hooker’s residential furniture. Mattress Firm’s U.S. retail sales provide a concrete place to watch that spending cycle.
