Company overview

Fractyl Health is a clinical-stage company developing two approaches to metabolic disease. Revita uses an endoscopic catheter and controlled heat to treat the lining of the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine. Rejuva is a gene-therapy platform designed to deliver genetic material directly to the pancreas; its lead candidate, RJVA-001, aims to enable targeted cells to produce GLP-1, a hormone involved in blood-sugar regulation. These treatments remain under development, and their safety and effectiveness have not been established.

The company previously earned revenue from a limited Revita pilot launch in Germany, but has paused further investment in that launch and its Revita type 2 diabetes programs. It now prioritizes the REMAIN-1 pivotal Revita study and advancement of Rejuva. Its planned Revita business relies on healthcare providers buying single-use supplies for procedures, with adoption depending partly on insurers covering those procedures adequately.

Fractyl has no product authorized for commercial sale in the United States and has not generated significant product-sales revenue. U.S. sales require successful clinical development and regulatory authorization: it plans to seek FDA clearance for Revita and biologic approval for Rejuva. Equity and debt financing, rather than product sales, have primarily funded operations, and continued development requires substantial additional capital.

  • Eli Lilly’s tirzepatide sales for obesity and diabetes, and its development of further metabolic drugs, set the effectiveness and convenience benchmarks that Fractyl’s Revita and Rejuva programs must compete against.

  • Vogenx is developing VGX-2857 for weight maintenance, putting it in competition with Fractyl’s Revita procedure for patients seeking to stop GLP-1 treatment without regaining weight. Watch whether this still-preclinical drug advances toward that use; Revita treats the duodenal lining through an outpatient endoscopic procedure.

  • Vivani Medical’s long-acting implants that release GLP-1 drugs could compete with Fractyl’s locally delivered Rejuva gene therapies for obesity and diabetes patients seeking lasting treatment. Its semaglutide implants for weight management and type 2 diabetes are the programs to watch for whether sustained drug delivery can address missed doses and administration difficulties.

  • Amgen’s MariTide and Fractyl’s Rejuva pursue competing ways to provide durable treatment for obesity and metabolic disease, making MariTide’s development relevant to Rejuva’s prospects. Amgen already earns revenue selling medicines to wholesalers and healthcare providers, while Fractyl is still developing its metabolic treatments.
